GB Chapter 20: A Game of Bones

General Summary

Opening

In the wake of mourning, Draconius talks about jumping into the chasm and joining Stonius in the afterlife. Draconius grapples Obu, who grabs him and throws him off, but keeps him from falling in. Lots of silly stuff happens. Draconius summons his dybuuk and has it teleport down to get Stonius’ body. Balcazar makes a camp fire with Prestiditigation, turning it into a funeral pyre. Draconius pours beer over the pyre and says a few words. Master Obu says a few words while Draconius draws some blood. Balcazar takes his Bag of Holding. Draconius stands by the pyre until the last ember is gone. The gang Long Rests and recovers health/spell slots. Balcazar goes through the Bag of Holding and finds Stonius’ inventory (messaged in Discord). They fly across and finesse their way before the guards. They get in and send the wyveraurus to hang with Rexy.

The Tavern

They go in and order vodka, Obu drops 10 gp, Balcazar gets another round. The bartender points to a dealer
The dealer: Balcazar & the dealer each throw 10 gp. The dealer rolls 5, 5, 6, 4, 2

• Round 1: Balcazar throws 5gp, dealer calls
• Round 2: Rerolls one, then throws 5 gp. Dealer calls
• Round 3: Forefeits draw, bets 10 gp. Dealer throws down 20 gp, Balcazar calls
• Balcazar wins 60 gp

The zealot: gives Obu a card for the Church of Danos.
The drinker

The dealer: Plays the cup game with Obu, who wins the Wish card. Recommends the Tundra Tumbler as the next tavern. Vampiric Elves approach them and try to get them to go with them. Obu agrees and goes with them. Fork remains in the tavern and hangs out with the drinker. When Fork wakes up, he screams Stonius’ name and starts punching, which Balcazar dodges. Balcazar kicks his feet out from under him, but Draconius avoids it. Draconius drinks more, while Balcazar posts up at a bar table.

After the Shenanginans

Balcazar scans the bar and overhears bar patrons talking about the lottery. With a powerful History check, he connects the dots between dragon-humanoid farming practices and what the vampires are doing here. While chatting about Obu’s fate, Draconius notices a heavily cloaked figure, who eventually reveals themsevlves as Wizard Santa. He provides an intriguing quest, since they are on the naughty list. The quest: Wizard Santa needs the party to find some information to answer these riddles two:

1. “I’m surrounded by water, but i don’t have scales. I’m found in the ocean, but I’m not a whale. The only way to reach me is by a sail. If I’m small enough, you can make me disappear with a pail.”
2. “I build castles, but tear down mountains. I make men blind, but make others see.”
3. “It wears a leather coat to keep its skins in working order. Escorts you to other realms, without a magic portal.”

He gives them a jingle bell, “Flip this thrice, and I’ll come to your aid.” The illusory Santas converge and he vanishes in a mystical puff. The two agree to take Fork and head to the Tundra Tumbler, their next bar.
