Silvermere

Silvermere was founded during the Era of Creation by a group of dragonborn who had sought refuge from the divine war on the relatively untouched island of Kethendia. The first to settle the island, the dragonborn clans were able to escape from the brunt of the war and live undetected until centuries later. Silvermere was destroyed in BV 432 by the first eruption of Klauth's Fury.

A Safe Haven

Three ships full of dragonborn had set out across the Jade Sea, searching for a place to live after their small settlements had been destroyed by the divine war raging across the world. They were headed for the smudge on the horizon that they had seen from the southwestern coast of Judera. Aboard the ships, seven broken clans comforted each other as the smoke from their ruined homes receded behind them. After three days of harrowing travel and several near-misses, the ships ran aground on Kethendia. Their passengers traveled inland until they stopped in the shadow of a massive mountain. Naming the mountain Bejikmartivir, savior of peace, they began to build themselves a new home. Through generations this home, called Silvermere, flourished as it lay untouched by the outer world.

Discovery

In BV 3277, nearly a millennium since the city's establishment and well after the Era of Creation had ended, a group of gnomish explorers stumbled across the city on what they had thought was an uninhabited island. Because the city had no outside contact for many generations, the explorers were met with apprehension and some hostility upon their first encounter. However, with slow introductions the city's residents became used to the idea of outsiders coming to visit. Because dragonborn were rare to see in the outer world Silvermere soon became a popular place for travelers to visit. Although not entirely welcome, these tourists were tolerated provided they remained respectful of the city and its residents. The sudden influx of travelers brought more currency to the city, and Silvermere grew in affluence slowly. A shipyard was built on the coast for better access to the island and the city.

Destruction

One summer morning in BV 432, the residents of Silvermere were awakened by an earsplitting boom as Bejikmartivir erupting, sending its rocky top flying across the sky. Rubble, ash and smoke filled the air as residents scrambled to collect belongings and escape their impending doom. Unfortunately, the eruption progressed much too quickly for proper evacuation, and the smoke and fear only contributed to the chaos in the streets. As residents crowded the gates of the city, guards struggled to keep order amid the cries of terror. While volcanic ash began to accumulate on the streets, a noxious gas was released from the gaping hole in the mountain, rolling quickly down the mountain's slopes and over Silvermere's walls. Citizens who could not outrun the wave were suffocated, and others were buried in heaps of hot ash. Lahars flowed rapidly down the still erupting volcano, quickly destroying anything in their path until they breached the walls of Silvermere and flooded the streets. By the time the eruptions ceased and the lava cooled into stone over the ruins of the city, only four of the seven clans managed to escape certain death with significant numbers, while other clans were decimated.

Silvermere Ruins.

The eruptions from newly renamed Klauth's Fury were visible from the mainland and the cloud of ash spread far across the sky, so it did not take long for concerned kingdoms to send emissaries to Kethendia to check on Silvermere and offer assistance. Upon arrival at the island, it was soon discovered that the docks too had been destroyed, making going to land difficult. Further exploration of the area surrounding the volcano showed that the city had been completely decimated. A few walls and pillars at the end of the city farthest from the volcano marked where Silvermere had once stood. When this news reached the mainland, explorers and treasure seekers flocked to the ruins to seek any kind of leftover items that had managed to survive the eruption. It was rumored that the great treasure vaults of Silvermere, hidden somewhere below the city's streets, still remained and held untold wealth. In the following centuries, Silvermere has continued to attract adventurers seeking their fortune amid the rubble, but none have located the vaults thus far. The ruins have become inhabited by unsavory monsters lurking in the shadows, and explorers must be vigilant when searching through the rubble.
