Galentean Empire
The Galentean Empire (also known as Galenara),was the ancient Empire of the Galenteans which spanned the full domain of the Galenaran Reaches
The first to create the Needle Drive and unlocking interstellar travel, the Galentean Empire spent many hundreds of years colonizing neighbouring systems, terraforming & colonizing planets, and building a vast logistical network for transporting vast amounts of resources throughout the reaches.
The Galentean Empire is considered to have ended with the Collapse, as the Empire retreated back to its home system of Galentus and the surrounding world, today known as the Galentean Protectorate. They are considered to have been succeeded by the Galentean Remnant, although they still seem to consider themselves the Empire.
Public Agenda
The Galenteans considered themselves a rather peaceful and altruistic race, and believed their expansionism would serve to benefit all other sapient species in the Galaxy. They would often make pacts and treaties with space-faring species, but also uplifted the Grel from a pre-industrial civilization into the space age.
History
Before the Empire's formation, the peoples of Galentus had already mastered interplanetary flight. From their Homeworld Galentus Primus, they had colonized Galentus Secundus, began exploiting the system's asteroid belts, mining several moons, and building many colony stations. Scientific efforts were made at the time to send probes to neighbouring star systems, but these efforts would take decades to bear fruit.
However, on a sociopolitical level, the Galenteans were on the brink of interplanetary nuclear war. There was much conflict and disagreement between the Prime Worlds, and only kept getting worse.
This acceleration was halted by the discovery of the Needle Drive. With the first successful test flight to another system and back, it became clear that no longer would the Galenteans be bound by the limits of their system, and the entire Galaxy lay open to them.
A treaty was signed between the Prime Worlds and Galentean Civilization as a whole embraced preace. With the vast potential of the Galaxy before them, they saw no more reason to fight amongst each other, as resources would no longer be an issue, nor would there be any more issues with liveable space.
It took a hundred more years for the Galentean Empire to begin proper, and the maiden voyage of the first expeditionary ships heralded in the Galentean Calendar and the birth of the Empire.
Disbandment
The Galentean Collapse has been attributed to many factors, and indeed, many factors caused it.
One of the many events that heralded the Collapse was the Grel'daan great revolt. After decades of cultural suppression and replacement by the Galenteans, the Grel finally snapped and launched a multi-day festival of rebellion. The Grel would return to their ancestral habits of recreational and social combat, as well as tearing down what they saw as symbols of Galentean power and cultural dominance. What Galenteans were on Grel'Daan at the time either fled, were killed in the rebellion, or were taken prisoner afterwards and sentenced.
Upon noticing that there were similar Rebellions around the Reaches, the Galenteans decided not to respond with force, and instead initiated a vast exodus to Galentus. In doing so, they irrevocably crippled the logistical network they build and which sustained virtually all of the reaches, only furthering the events of the Collapse.
