Betula
Betula is a resilient wood elf with a round build and sharp, green eyes that mirror the deep hues of the forest. Her auburn hair, streaked with silver strands, falls to her shoulders, often braided to keep it out of her way as she works tirelessly as an Arborers to provide for her son, Birchbreaker. Her skin is tanned green from years spent under the dappled sunlight of the Incantum forests, and her hands are calloused from the toil of both labor and motherhood. Betula carries herself with quiet strength
She was young when she met the half giant Halduur. He was short for a giant, a runt of his kin while Betula stood taller than most Aelves, let alone wood Aelves.
Together they bore a child, one that was very heavy at birth, Betula broke the wooden bearing bed while attempting to birth her son. Birchbreaker would live on to break a lot more than just that birch table.
Halduur and her tried to make it work but the elders did not condone the relationship. Birch’s father was banned from entering the city of Eleyond. During important pilgrimage events within the forest, borders were opened to all that worshipped. Halduur became a devout follower of Kishar while he spent more time in the woods. He entered the city on the day of the Conveyance to see his 4 year old son and previous partner. She planned to leave with him soon out into the Great Plains.
On that fateful day, the arsonists attempting to stop the Conveyance lit the city ablaze. Halduur died saving Betula and Birchbreaker from a collapsing house. The procession of the Ghaean Courtships arrived to help and were able to get Betula and her son out. The building then collapsed on the half giant, killing him.
Betula’s love for her late partner, Halduur, lives on in the fierce determination she shows in raising their son. The tragedy of losing Halduur during the attack on the Botanoron has left an indelible mark on her, but she remains devoted to keeping their memory alive through stories and the upbringing of Birchbreaker.
Tykren Blackcherry, the protector of the Hiasynth Elves during procession, frequently checks in on the two to make sure his promise to Halduur is kept. “Make sure they are okay” were the father’s last words.
