Philippe of Belcour

Personal assistant of Aveline Baudelaire on the ship La Belle Maree.
Second Mate on Lady Aveline Baudelaire's ship.
Standing shorter than most of his shipmates, Phillipe's round stature makes him immediately noticeable. His greying hair, meticulously combed back, contrasts with his well-maintained mutton chops. The lines on his face, carved by time and concern, speak of his dedication to his lady and the many challenges they've faced together.
Phillipe is the embodiment of order amidst the chaotic life of the sea. A stickler for rules, he often finds himself in friendly conflict with the crew, urging them to follow protocol. His genuine concern for Lady Aveline's safety is palpable, often manifesting as an almost fatherly protectiveness. This concern, combined with his natural propensity for caution, leads him to frequently counsel her to return to the safety and comfort of her castle.
Of Belcousian descent, Phillipe's life has been tied to the sea for as long as he can remember. He joined the Baudelaire fleet at a young age to learn the ropes. While his heritage of the Belcoursian prized tradition and structure, the lure of the open waters was too much for young Phillipe to resist. Now, after decades on the sea, his love for order has only grown, perhaps as a counterbalance to the unpredictable nature of ocean voyages. Joining Lady Aveline's crew was both an honor and a burden, as he feels a deep responsibility for her safety. Yet, deep down, Phillipe knows that the call of the sea is irresistible and understands, albeit reluctantly, why Lady Aveline can't simply return home.
