Morokarrúm

Morokarrúm is one of the oldest and wealthiest cities of the Imkalans in southern Emlas, located at the mouth of Omkús in the southern part of Imkala. It's an important link in the maritime trade-route that connects Sanx and Paróbax in the west to the empire of Dalra to the east and beyond, though the conflict with the Dalrans for the last few decades (known as the Dalro-Imkalan War) has diminished the city's prestige to some extent.
The name, meaning Mókar's Abode, refers to Morokarrúm's association with the goddess Mókar, mother of all the deities in imkalan mythology, whose sanctuary is considered to be one of the wonders of Imkala. Originally a shrine built atop a large cliff, over hundreds of years the hill itself has been carved and hollowed out into a massive temple complex overlooking the city, painted in bright colours and adorned with gold, jewels and myriad flags and statues.

Industry & Trade

Aside from trade, Morokarrúm is a center of shipbuilding, pottery -particularly grey ware with intricate patterns- and agriculture in the region.

Architecture

As in most lowland cities in Imkala, the majority of buildings in Morokarrúm are built on stilts due to annual flooding of the Omkús River, during which most of the population travels by boat, and otherwise make use of numerous bridges and platforms. Only a few structures, such as the palace, mansions and orchards, are built on dry land or stone platforms, and certain shrines are carved out of rock spires.
