Codename: Sleeping Alley, Report the Fourteenth

General Summary

We met the Alley Sleepers on the grimy oilspill of danger, having just entered Pullkirk, set on finding a fledgling Brass Lamb cell, and made a mixed impression upon the populace. It was thus decided that maybe our crew should get the lay of the land a bit. So it was off to The Smoke and Border, a rather large inn and tavern, to see about some rooms and some information. They were met there by Vircan, the steward of the place, who offered them decent enough lodgings (Aletha of the Flintclaw  got herself her own room for brooding) and storage for their honey to be sold during the Void Market. He also informed them that Elder Revalor is the person to see about some space during said Void Market. It was then decided that Rieta, who determined that Svo'Kool might blow their whole operation for some reason, and Grex the Indomitable should see the man about a stall, leaving Svo to brood on his own.    While that was happening, Hama vu Farlight decided to see what the market was all about. He noticed a tabaxi bookseller offering his wares and inquired both about what volumes he might have about The Icehost, and also, more covertly, "what was your name before you were born?" The seller, introducing himself as Shiny, replied something about an open field, and a singing mountain. Successful use of Brass Lamb codes! Nice!   Rieta and Grex weren't having as much success with their Elder Revalor interactions. Sure, they got the stall for 50 gold, which is all well and good, but in the process they made the Elder very, very suspicious. Oh man. Rieta is about to eat some eyeless crow.   Aletha, having finished her brooding, decided to take in the market as well. She met a tanner named Zakhur Cani and they talked about the strengths of various leathers. When asked, however, "what leather is best for shoes?" The man replied with something other than the specified code. This, apparently, is not the Lamb the gang is looking for. She had better luck with a butcher, who, when asked "What do you see when you close your eyes at night?" replied that "the dead see nothing" whilst gesturing to his wares. Slickly done! That's two operatives encountered.   Meanwhile, Rieta, perhaps feeling bad for maligning Svo'Kool's people skills, decided to make amends by just getting shithouse drunk with him. They did that. And then Svo'Kool gave her a friendship bracelet he made out of copper coins. Awww.    Grex, going full on hypeman, decided to spend his energies becoming the best damn fantasy capitalist he could and extolling the virtues of Ivory Bee honey to all who would listen. It worked out well, as our heroes had a profitable experience at the market, enough to maintain their cover story under brief scrutiny.   Eventually, Shiny made contact with Hama, requesting a meeting with the Sleepers in their room. There, they were introduced to the cell--Eelweed, the baker that Svo'Kool inadvertently hit on when first entering the town; the aforementioned Shiny, alias Shinbone; Mr. Cleat, a blacksmith; Bagger, the butcher that Aletha met; and Boilmark, a goblin teamster. After some pleasantries and back and forth, it was down to business. The Sleepers requested two things from the Walkers:
  • to figure out the identity of the mysterious figure who destroyed Copperfelling with a Tutelage
  • find somebody worth talking to in The Decree, with "worth talking to" meaning capable of subornment to--or persuasion of--the worthiness of the Sleeper's goals
So tasked, the Lamb cells parted ways, but not before having a little party, because why not?   In order to keep up the appearances of their visit to Pullkirk, our adventurers decided to say for the whole tenday of the Void Market. Hama met an herbalist named Rosemary who expressed an interest in honey, but was very, very interested in Hama's dryad leaf when offered a free sample. She is very eager to get her hands on more, so Hama has got a little leaf-dealing business happening on the side, apparently.   It was also decided that maybe the strangely mentioned Consolidated Imports and Exports should be investigated. A quick conversation with a figure named Biggems revealed that this place was clearly a front for something. But what? Well, some midnight breakin' and enterin' revealed a stash of firearms and prepared nitre. Clearly, this stuff is meant for the Alerki Ascendency somehow--either stolen from or stolen for. Our gang decided that didn't matter, but that this revealed a new option--let's blow up the Pullkirk Tabernacle.   So, yes. That happened. Svo'Kool snuck some prepared nitre all over the Tabernacle and, with a quick spark, it was no more (and, presumably, Elder Revalor is no more either). Seems like a good time to leave town, so the Sleepers did just that, but not before taking 2 cases of rifles, a barrel of prepared nitre, and some ammunition with them.   On the way back to The Ivory Bee, there was an unsettling encounter with a very strong Earth Elemental of some sort. It was quickly dispatched, but not before it was determined that it was both related to The Task and to Gnet. What could this mean? Hama decided to reach out to Hill for another opinion, contacting him with a trusty eyeless crow and a message that "you owe us." Hopefully he'll come calling soon.   Upon arrival at the gates of the bee, the Sleepers were greeted with a severed loxodon trunk nailed to the wood. Closer inspection revealed it chock full with dead worms. All of this mandated, finally, Svo'Kool coming clean about his involvement with The Worm and his ultimate refusal to kill Olddom Zethergyll at The Worm's behest. Each Sleeper had a different reaction to this news, but it was ultimately agreed that, well, dang, this got more intense, huh?   And that's where we left it. We'll see how all these threads begin to interweave during our next session.
