Fickle Fortune Palace of Entertainments
The Fickle Fortune is a theater in The Library that features a wide variety of programs and events.
Purpose / Function
Fickle Fortune is, at its heart, a place for Cityfolk to take in a show, experience the many delights of music and dance, or simply gather with friends and like-minded associates.
It also serves as an organizing area for various causes and groups, as it is a well-known landmark in the Library. Some would call it an indelible part of that constantly changing district.
Alterations
After the Fortune was destroyed in 1067, it was rebuilt on a larger foundation and two more stages were added. Rumors abound about other expansions and developments added to the theater, but the blueprints for the reconstruction have yet to be located to ascertain any of these speculations for certain.
History
The Fortune was first established in 1045 AC by Rastirid Hornback, a prosperous merchant from Nineboons. Hornback came to New Carydam to escape from an unsatisfactory personal relationship and realized the opportunity to provide an organized and well-stocked "hall of gentility" for the rapidly growing city.
In 1067 AC, the theater burned down. Hornback perished in the flames. Some of her friends--Rare Zoramar among them--agreed that she would want her hall to continue, so they formed an consortium to rebuild it. A small plaque remembering Hornback is behind the main bar.
Eventually, Rare bought out his other partners and became sole proprietor of the Fortune. While his status as Freeholder awards him offices in Starminster Hold, he often prefers to conduct business from his suite of rooms above the main stage of the Fortune.
