Starminster Hold
Starminster Hold is a district in New Carydam. It holds the primary administrative offices of the city.
Demographics
The population of Starminster, given its position as administrative hub of New Carydam, is mostly of upper social-economic status. The rich and influential (and, especially, those that wish to be seen as such) reside here. As a result. Starminster Hold has a reputation as a neighborhood of the politically ambitious and the upwardly mobile. This gives the district an air of elitism that many who live there seek to cultivate further.
While certainly important, most of the rest of New Carydam views Starminsters to have an artificially elevated opinion of themselves.
Government
Starminster Hold contains the offices of not just the Freeholder of New Carydam, but also the Freehall, which is where Freeholders congregate to vote on business that concerns all of the Free Cities.
Although, as Freeholder, Rare Zoramar has a suite of offices here at his disposal, he doesn't often make use of them, preferring to operate out of Fickle Fortune Palace of Entertainments.
Defences
The presence of Starminster above the rest of New Carydam positions it as a kind of natural fortress. The barracks and armory of the Minders, New Carydam's security force, is also here.
Industry & Trade
The main industry of Starminster Hold is politics and lobbying. As such, many prominent merchant firms and scholars of contract law have offices here, preferring to offer their services directly to the wealthy and powerful.
Infrastructure
Starminster Hold is built upon the ruins of an old unknown city, and, in actuality, probably several old unknown cities. The Old Wall, which rings its way around the district, is a clear indication of this, but not the only one. Several of the larger estates in Starminster are built upon the foundations of previous dwellings. Or what was presumed to be dwellings.
While some maintain that the spirits that once lived within these ancient places still haunt the district, most Starminsters dismiss that notion as nonsense. Recent events, however, have caused quite a few to reconsider their previous opinions.
History
Experts have yet to reach consensus as to the exact age of the ruins upon which Starminster Hold is built. Most agree, however, that they extend well into the Unknown Era.
Tourism
Many Starminsters frown upon tourism, preferring to keep their district for themselves.
Glass Gardens gets a few specially invited visitors outside the Hold, but, as befitting its private nature, is mostly patronized by those within.
