STATIC 21: A Carydamian Interlude
General Summary
Wherein the The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency reacquaint themselves with their city
The Bustle of New Carydam
Upon arrival in No Future, our detectives were greeted by Scruzz, a goblin who--apparently--used to own the nightclub before being Displaced. He is back and has big plans for the place. After serving them a tasty "Sruzzy Sip," he suggested a partnership: they let him rebuild and rebrand No Future into a steamball arcade/bar, while still using it as a home base for their investigative enterprise, and they'll split the profits. Easy! Our heroes, having other stuff to do than attend to the business of running a bar in a rapidly disintegrating urban environment, readily agreed. With that resolved, it was time to go see Messelum and update him on the goings on vis a vis The Displacement. On the way to the Fickle Fortune Palace of Entertainments, Venomhead encountered our gumshoes and offered one of his cryptic sayings. This time, however, he looked Hypatia square in the eyes and said "Where there is nothing, there is Dream. Where there is Dream, there is Memory." That seemed to make a sort of sense to Hypatia, and seemed important in some as yet unclear way. There will be time to figure that out later, though, as any questions that might be considered were interrupted by the arrival of a Displaced phase giant. Combat commenced and our heroes triumphed, but it was clear that the fabric that weaves New Carydam together continues to fray. Our crew arrived in the Fortune and updated Mess about their investigation--namely that the Displacement seems connected to events and circumstances. He, in turn, provided some details about what went on in their nearly 6 tenday absence--namely that the Displacement is getting worse, that objects, fiends, and catastrophes are being Displaced in the city without rhyme or reason. The investigation, then, has an even greater sense of urgency if there's to be a New Carydam to come back to at all after another Displacement. After a quick stop at Berrig's Necessities to grab some magic gear (Chicken Tonic! Studded Leather Armor of Warding! Bands of the Lost and Found! Battery Shield!), it was off to continue their investigation by hunting down an ogre named Trimtrub who is in possession of some pages of the Dedication of the Chronicle that a scholar named Quill Snap would like in return for his cryptography services (see STATIC 13: Birthing Trees, Bees, & City Business). Easy enough. Except for the fact that Trimtrub was now a giant husk who damn near suffocated our heroes. The fight was complicated by the relentless attack of Trimtrub's minions, but, eventually, the husk formerly known as Trimtrub was vanquished, and the pages of the Chronicle were retrieved. Being both a curious scholar and a member of the Dedication of the Chronicle, Hypatia took a look at what these pages contained, and it seemed to be an exhaustive linage of dragons, detailing a history that spans a whole dynasty of dragons, from Axelbras the Golden to Rysh the Dampfang. The pages were particularly critical of Rysh, at whose feet they laid the "downfall" of that particular line of dragons and whom the author dubbed "Brackdragon." As Hypatia read over these pages, our own vision faded from view, obscured for just a moment as we changed our focus. Into the frame then emerged Corinna and Sharkbait, Displaced once again into an unfamiliar place. This time it is a city called Myrgraf that has its own dangers. And That's Where We Left it
We'll see what the mysteries the city of Myrgraf hold for Corinna and Sharkbait during our next session.Varied & Sundry Details
