Winedark, Chapter Fifteen
General Summary
Wherein our heroes return to the Slagkeeper, bring back a barb, and ponder next moves
Back to Kevin-Kevin Upon arrival in Kattagari (and some interesting nights for Pitch and Kasula Neristina, the Blasters met up with Stavrik Kevin-Kevin at a little tavern called The Old Clam in Ashdown. All but Water, that is, who undertook a journey and returned a day and half later looking much changed. Stavrick was pleased to see them and introduced them to Marvon Mosswater, an esteemed scholar of the Unknown Era. It seems that this barb may well date back into the times before recorded history. Slightly distressed to hear about the new dragon in Rosepua, Stavrick took his leave, offering both several knowledge scrolls and the services as Mosswater to aid the Blasters in their endeavors.
All that remained, then, was to hightail it to Awa Harbor to turn in the barb and plot the next moves.
Having resolved that, nobody was quite sure where to head to find the next piece of Instrument. Nobody, that is, except Kharlo. As often been known, dreams have importance and meaning in this world, and Kharlo's been having some strange ones about his brother's massive sailing mall, the Seven Rows. Apparently there's a vault on there emitting the same type of MAGIC A.F. energy as has come off both the Line and the Barb. Perhaps a family reunion is in order...
The Instrument's Barb
The Vastblasters returned to Vandrizoth victorious, having convinced all remnants of the Cult of the Magma kobolds on Rosepua to vacate the premises. This put the dragon in a rather jovial mood, and he repaid his part of the bargain--granting the Instrument's Barb to our heroes. Kharlo Chondricht immediately went to pick the barb up and was greeted with bloodthirsty feelings and fire damage for his troubles. Whoops! Better be careful with this. After that, the dragon--prompted by our idiots--regaled the Blasters with his epic battle with the offensive Avararos the Magma, which ended in him burying the barb in the red dragon's skull. Once this three-hour tale concluded, it was decided that it was about time to get back to Kevin-Kevin, so after offering some interior decorating tips, they headed back to the VastBlasterand on to Kattagari.Back to Kevin-Kevin Upon arrival in Kattagari (and some interesting nights for Pitch and Kasula Neristina, the Blasters met up with Stavrik Kevin-Kevin at a little tavern called The Old Clam in Ashdown. Once Again, to Awa Harbor
Our heroes made sail for Awa Harbor (dispatching some poisonous green hags on the way). A quick meeting was arranged with Marrowdall Twinstar, the Sea Sibyl liaison, and the gang filled him on the details and offered up the barb. He gave them some walking around money, told them to seek their rewards with Orla over at the Customhouse, and took the Vastblaster to get fitted with a badass Kogos Figurehead, which will take about one tenday.Having resolved that, nobody was quite sure where to head to find the next piece of Instrument. And That's Where We Left It
We'll discover how the Blasters go about tracking down the Seven Rows during our next session.Various & Sundry Details
- During the trip back to Kattagari, Pitch was visited by two of their patrons, Sylvie and Foot, who let it be known that they were being watched and that they should be careful about "Ghosthair," which is apparently the smug and powerful Wilreth Elvalor. This encounter was kept secret from the other Blasters.
- Speaking of secrets, Kasula is currently trying to figure out what the blurry imagess sent their way by the seabed mean. There is definitely something about a black fog, though.
- Irk felt his egg grow varyingly hot and cold, sometimes simultaneously (but not in, like, a pleasant way).
- Zoth, having hear their suggestions of the Blasters to aid in whatever battle is coming, remained frustratingly noncommittal.
- Also, Kasula, in a fit of goodwill, tried to create unity aboard the ship in regards to Captain Pitch's decision vis-à-vis noncombatant pirates. For their troubles, they managed to alienate one Gadma Quickmask, who seemingly abandoned ship. Oh well--one less troublemaker, I suppose.
- The Orntime has found what appears to be the main shaft of Instrument. Good news, right?

Notes
On the Power of the Instrument's Barb:
Before you pick up the barb, you can feel it. Power overwhelming, flashing in your mind. A thinfish being devoured by a blackjaw, consumed in turn by something darker and larger. Black shards spun through a typhoon. The smell of lightning and the promise of lava. All of this is contained in this sharp, serrated weapon, which is both light and very heavy. When you touch this hook, it doesn’t burn, it sears. You feel old blood, something ancient and angry, course through you. Your eyes and hands are, for a moment, not your own, but not anyone else's either.
