Kingdom of Aubigny

When word about the discovery of a continent to the West starting spreading to Aldion, the Kingdom of Charmelac soon joined the colonial race to the West. After the discovery of fertile lands on the East coast, North of the initial discoveries by the Astunians, the Charmelan monarchy decided to claim these lands for themselves. In 1623 the first settlers arrived in the lands now known as the Kingdom of Aubigny. The colony was originally known by its rather uninspired name of Nouveau Charmelac.   When the De Verlaine family rose to power in Charmelac, they also decided to rename the colony, that by now had expanded significantly along the coast. The new name appointed by the crown was Le Domaine d'outre-mer Occidental d'Aubigny, The Western Overseas Estate of Aubigny. As an estate it was assumed to be a unmistakeable crown possession, and Aubigny was the name of the area the De Verlaine family originated from in Aldion.   Except for some conflict with native tribes and other common disruptances such as piracy, decennia passed in which the colony saw stable growth. However upon the death of the last king, Nicholas de Verlaine, in 1854, things changed significantly in the colonies. After a dispute in Aldion about the succession of the throne, the three daughters of the late king, with support of the local population and a large proportion of the military stationed in the colonies, started a war in 1862 to claim the colonies as their own. A four year war between two sides of the monarchy ensued, that resulted in the proclamation of the new Royaume d’Aubigny by the victorious sisters.   Contrary to the Kingdom of Charmelac, the sisters decided on a less absolute and authorative form of government. A system now known as the Council of Three was instigated in which all three sisters hold power, with the eldest, Isabelle de Verlaine, serving as primary head of state. Though conservative in terms of etiquette and ceremony, the population of the Kingdom of Aubigny enjoys more rights and wealth than their counterparts in the Kingdom of Charmelac. Still the sisters strongly believe in Royal and Noble privilege and despise many of the republican ideals.
