Kazıciana Ręśko

In this Varaso name, the second name, Calixta, is the preferred name when referring to this person by their given name.   Kaziciana Calixta Moraes, better known as Kazıciana Ręśko[note] is a Varaso revolutionary, politicial activist, and political theorist.

Names

Ręśko was born Kaziciana Calixta Moraes, being called by her middle name, Calixta, according to Varaso custom, growing up. When she began writing, she adopted the pen name “Jeralhe”, under which she wrote her pre-war writings. Around this time she began to go by her mother’s maiden name, Ręśko, in her personal life. She fled to Khatyanghatar after her involvement in the assassination of her father, Victor Moraes, in Hierarch 2891. There she assumed the names Kaśka and “K” (or Cej). Following the Friday Purge and start of the Enzimian Civil War, she took the nom de guerre Kazıciana Ręśko, readopting her legal first name (spelling it with a dotless i, as in the original Areltyan spelling).

Early Life

Kaziciana Calixta Moraes was born 23 Saint’s Blossom 2860 to an upper class family in Alvoradã. Her mother, Katarzına Moraes (neé Ręśko), was an Areltyan noblewoman and her father, Victor Moraes, was a high ranking Enzimian officer. She was the older of their two children, and her younger brother, Rexard, died in 2867 at the age of four. When Ręśko was nine, her mother died after being kicked by a horse. Her father never remarried and became despondent and morose. Apparently blaming his daughter for the tragedy that had befallen him, he grew abusive towards Ręśko.

Political Activism

Early Writings

While she hid her identity as "Jeralhe", her libertine lifestyle became notorious in Alvoradã: she began frequenting clubs and burlesque theatres, wearing men's clothing, wearing her hair short, racing automobiles, and getting into fights. She hid the sexual nature of her relationship with Ngui, but did so likely out of a desire to protect Ngui's career; her attraction to women was well known, and she publicly associated with other leftists and homosexuals.   Her relationship with her father had been highly strained for some time, and it's likely he hadn't cut Calixta out sooner simply because she was the only remaining part of the family. However, her public hellion lifestyle led her father to disown and disinherit her in 2886. This left her to rely on her writing (and Ngui's income) cut off from the family estate. She also began racing for prize money. A crash in 2888 left her with a serious leg injury that resulted in a permanent limp. Because of the need for income, the volume of her writing increased dramatically. She became increasingly resentful of her father and her use of alcohol and cocaine increased. Her writing during this time became increasingly fiery and radical. Her ideology developed from one of statist communism to anarchism as she began to view capital accumulation as inevitable in a system with any imbalance, and that the only two equilibrium states were absolute equality or absolute inequality.

Political Ideology

Ręśko’s work frequently called for the total abolition of the state and support for anarcho-syndicalism. She believed that any imbalance of power or authority would inevitably lead to the disenfranchisement of the lower classes (“the rich get richer and the poor get poorer”), so total equality under an anarchist system organised around equitable trade unions was needed. Earlier in her political career, she viewed the state as necessary to ensure the equitable redistribution of capital to the working class. As she developed her theory of equilibria of the absolutes, she initially took the view that the state would be perpetually necessary to continually redistribute wealth, but this gave way to advocacy for anarchism organised around labour unions which would serve the same watchdog and distribution functions with capital held in common by the working class.   Ręśko advocates for the liberation and equality of homosexuals, holding that it was a natural and immutable characteristic rather than an un- natural deviation or illness to be cured. Ręśko is herself a lesbian and openly in a relationship with another woman. Notably, only sex acts between men are criminalised in Enzim, so while socially unacceptable among Enzimian society, she does not face legal consequences for her open homosexuality.

Personal Life

Ręśko is informally married to the Blackrock-born half-mustelin burlesque dancer Ngui Mingyuk. The two met in Alvoradã, both being involved in left-wing groups in the city. Ręśko took Ngui, six-and-a-half years her junior, under her wing as a political protegé. The two became romantically involved and lived together in Alvoradã for several years. Both were involved in the assassination of Ręśko’s father, Victor Moraes, during a performance of Rujevit’s Khorlana. Ngui was shot in the chest when the assassination turned into a shootout with detectives in attendance. Ręśko escaped unharmed, and while Ngui survived and would recover in custody, Ręśko believed she had been killed in the fight. Ręśko would not see Ngui again for two years when she was freed from prison during the Hierarch Coup and the two reunited in Chazderma.   Ręśko is a frequent user of stimulants, particularly cocaine. She regularly chewed qat during her time in Chazderma.   Despire adopting an Areltyan name, Ręśko does not speak Areltyan. She speaks Varaso, Taminil, and apparently basic Then. Despite her time in Chazderma, she does not speak Chazhdurm.
