In this Then name, Ngui is the family name and Mingyuk is the given name
Ngui Mingyuk (
危孊玉) is a
Blackrock-born
Enzimian model, burlesque dancer, convicted assassin, and revolutionary.
Early Life
Ngui was born on 3 The Wane, 2866 in a small village in Areltyan Blackrock to a mustelin rice farmer mother and an unknown, possibly Areltyan, father. She grew up speaking
Xioun, and thus as “
Wei Miyü”, the Xioun pronunciation of her name. Little else is known about her early life other than that she received some amount of education, and was able to read and write.
Leaving Blackrock
When Ngui was fourteen, she travelled to
Xäräy, likely stowing away illegally on a ship. In Xäräy, her name was registered as “Mingyuk Ngui”, rather than “Miyu Łey” as would be expected. The reason for the name change is unknown, but was possibly one of confusion as her registration likely involved an interpreter, who may have used Then pronunciations for the characters of her name. She quickly left
Areltya into
the Narrows. She spent two years wandering northwestern
Enzim, working as a prostitute. She presumably learned
Varaso during this time and evidently took to the “Mingyuk Ngui” pronunciation of her name, possibly because it was easier for Varasos to pronounce, Varaso lacking the /w/ and /y/ sounds in the Xioun pronunciation, though she has never spelled her name “Minhuk Nhui” as might aid pronunciation to Varaso speakers.

Alvoradã and Left-wing Activities
At seventeen, Ngui was living in
Alvoradã and began working at
Domus Carduorum, a cabaret in the Old Market of Alvoradã.
Domus Carduorum was a common gathering place for homosexuals, socialists, republicans, anarchists, and other dissidents within Alvoradã before the Friday Purge. She worked as a dancer, and quickly became enmeshed in the culture of transgression that pervaded
Domus Carduorum, taking to drinking, smoking, wearing scandalous outfits, including frequent crossdressing, and generally challenging pervading sexual norms. Here she met
Kazıciana Ręśko, who quickly took her as a political protegé, involving Ngui in underground left-wing political and revolutionary movements. The two also quickly began a romantic relationship, though Ngui would have several affairs.
Involvement in the Assassination of Victor Moraes
Ngui was arrested and recovered from her injuries in custody. She entered a plea deal with prosecutors and was convicted for third degree muder, conspiracy, and sedition. As part of the plea deal, she was given a life sentence rather than the death penalty. Many anarchists who engaged in acts intended to act as propaganda of the deed wished for the death penalty to make them martyrs, but Ngui and the other perpetrators of the assassination had not intended to get caught and had planned to flee the country. They had apparently initially planned to flee to Dacia, but decided instead on Lower Chazderma where they would go into hiding.
Alvoradã Prison Break and Chazderma
Ngui’s time in prison was uneventful, but two years after her arrest, the Hierarch Coup began in Enzim, and she was released from prison on the 16
th of Hierarch, 2893 as part of the Alvoradã Prison Break, which was meant to free various political prisoners. Many freed prisoners were not serving politically motivated sentences, and Ngui, while many left-wingers would have sympathised with her, was serving a sentence related to her involvement in an assassination, rather than purely political motivations. As such, fearing she would be reincarcerated once the Republican Council reigned in the chaos in Alvoradã, she fled. She headed to
Khatyanghatar, where she and the other conspirators in Moraes’ assassination had agreed to flee after the deed, hoping to find or pick up the trail of Ręśko, whom she had learned had neither been killed nor arrested after the assassination. The two reunited outside Qasućcą Laqčor, where Ręśko was aiding the Chazhdurm Rebellion. She became involved in the rebellion alongside Ręśko.
Following the Friday Purge in Enzim and the subsequent red-white split in Chazderma, Ngui and Ręśko obviously sided with the reds.
Personal Life
Ngui has a personal fascination with the
duelle secle, particularly its literature and fashion. Many photographs of her have her wearing Oecumenian dress of the early 29
th century, especially men’s dress.
After beginning her relationship with Ręśko, Ngui has had numerous affairs with both men and women. Despite these affairs, she considers her relationship with Ręśko, herself aware of the affairs, her only formal relationship, which the two consider a marriage. This “marriage” has obviously never been formalised, but Ngui does wear a ring (notably Ręśko does not), either signifying her role as the bride in the relationship, or as a symbol of her commitment to Ręśko amid her affairs.
