Vegilian
Vegilian (Vallaran: Quīntus Amōrius Vegiliānus) was a 9th century Vallaran arcane scholar and occultist known for his theory of matter-energy relations, the development of energetically transformative metamagic, and his exploration of the outer planes. He is also the author of the eponymous Vegilian Codices, byzantine journals and accounts of his later planar travels that speak of a frayed and shattered mental state.
Life
Early Life
Very little is known about his early life, as original Vallaran records are extremely scare. Most of what we know about him comes from Livio's account of the history of the Varasos written some centuries later. Vegilian was born to an aristocratic family in Hadrumentum on the eastern coast of Tirivada (modern Tirivade) and received a formal education in magic.Work on Transmutation
Vegilian spent much of his life in Hadrumentum researching into transmutation, and specifically in attempts to transmute magic and energy, rather than matter. His early works form the basis of modern thinking on the relationship between matter and energy, and that one can be transformed into another. This revelation led Vegilian to think about the possibility of transforming energy into other types of energy, culminating in his development of energetically transformative metamagic, often referred to as a transmuted spell or Vegilian transmutation. His discovery of the relationship between matter and energy also led him to consider and attempt to convince others that conjuration was a special case of transmutation, as it represented the transmutation of energy into matter. While true, conjuration would and does often remain a distinctly classified magical discipline.Planar Travel and the Vegilian Codices
The last works known to have been written by Vegilian were what are known as his codices. They are journals he kept while wandering the outer planes.
