Tycho son of Gehn
Tycho grew up in a firbolg village in a valley in the Sword Mountains, along the very edge of the Pale. His people had come from Ulthos when he was very young to escape the religious and political strife of the Old World, and to begin a new life in a pristine wilderness. The land had been granted to them by the King of the Albi, and, as they kept to themselves, they were soon forgotten by all their neighbors, native and colonist alike.
Tycho, who had been too young to remember his life in Ulthos, grew up as a pensive and impressionable child. He was soon taken under the wing of Leto, the medicine man of the village, who initiated young Tycho into the mysteries of the Raven Queen, and raised him almost as his own son.
As Tycho came into his own, the village seemed to have been discovered by loggers, who started clearing away trees on the outskirts. Some sneaked into the village at night, and began to undermine the foundations of its circular structures and bridges. Leto and the elders figured the miscreants might have been orcs, or perhaps dire beavers who lived upstream of the village, and they dispatched Tycho into the outside world to seek help among the colonists. After receiving no welcome at Sanctuary, he continued to Saltmarsh on the coast. Here, fortunately, he was identified as a firbolg by a scholar, Charles Birchwood, so he harangued the scholar and his companions Drazer and Kray over drinks to accompany him back to his village to save it from the mysterious loggers.
They left the following day, and after an encounter with gnolls and a black bear, and a night layover in Sanctuary, came to the firbolg village and found it destroyed. Kray found a dying Leto in one of the huts, and the old firbolg told his pupil that the village was attacked by orcs, who had driven off more than half of the residents, and butchered the rest. He asked for a potion from the medicine hut, and after making Tycho promise to save his people, drank it, and expired.
That night, the carnage attracted scavengers - first a bear, which Drazer and Kray dispatched. While on watch, roasting the carcass which had much good meat on it, a landshark emerged suddenly from underground, and began to feast on the meat. Beside himself with grief over what happened to his people, and not wanting to lose the bear meat, Tycho tried to frighten the monstrous beast off, and then charged it. It turned and made short work of the firbolg. Thus, the New World became his resting place until the end of days.
