Dwarves ([ dwɔrf ])

— Onlooker, concerning Lord Edvard, 338 RB
The dwarves originated from Olivia, and are regarded a sub-species of humans, adapting to mountainous regions and developing to be better attuned to Fost. When referring to their genders, the gendered terms are Dwyn [ dwin ] and Dwenw[ ˈdwɜ.nʊ ].

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are humanoid. Their ears are rounded, and are often structurally more stout and top heavy built in their males. Their females contrast in being more slender and tall, being considered more beautiful than elven women. This is colloquially called the 'dwarven compromise'. The marking feature of a dwarf is the hair on their hands and incredibly strong grips even in their women. It’s common to compliment a handshake on its firmness with ‘dwarf blood must run in your veins’. Their eyes are better in dim light conditions rather than bright light, and can see further than the average human. Their skin colour is can vary between darker shades in hotter climates and paler shades in colder climates, and their hair usually matches in colour.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves will live to be around 200 hundred years in the average lifespans around Olivia and Eleanor. Their generational gaps are often at about 40 years, meaning often five generations of dwarves can be living at one time, meaning traditions are hard to throw off and less change is expected in dwarven societies over hundreds of years.
