Limbo

Limbo is the outermost known expanse of the Cosmos. No living being have ever seen its borders, and it is unknown if it has any such thing. It is a realm of pure potential, where matter changes form as easily as the wind might blow over the seas of the Material Plane. A star can blaze on moment, only to be replaced by obsidian glass, which reforms into cold ice, which in turn shifts into golden, gleaming metal. All of Limbo is a plane of unfettered creation, madness and chance, where the smallest changes have the biggest consequences. A few points of relative stability exist in Limbo, with ancient castles and the detritus of planar civilizations making up most of these. In spite of being such a hostile plane, Limbo is not without life. The potential of Limbo can be used by creatures with will and intellect to create small world of their own, though it will drain them quickly to hold onto it for a long time. Some, such as the githzherai, have made havens for themselves in Limbo using powerful psionics. Others have used magic to bend Limbo to their will.
But Limbo does not belong to these mortals. It belongs to the Great Parasites, the Elder Evils or Star Gods. These ancient, evil beings have made their lairs in Limbo and wait for the day the Darkwall finally opens, that they might try to claim reality for themselves. Little do they know that the Darkwall isn't to keep them out, but to protect them from even greater dangers and keep the power of Limbo out of the hands of powers that would alter all of reality should they get their hands on them.
