Kley Introduction

The Kley are an intelligent race that are widespread, especially across Gora's biggest continent Jshang, they are known for trading and living in harsh environments such as the Jalkuc Desert, Jungles of Rahat and the Jal-Jynljmuk-Jyka Swamps. They are hardy, invasive and pragmatic but do not shy away from war and combat in counter to their charisma, they are also known for their excellent record-keeping. Also being the first race to come up with a definitive writing system, writing in clay tablets, using stylus' although proto-kleyik speakers used their beaks as stylus.

Civilisation and Culture

Religion

They worship gods known as Jajnuka, they are the creators and destroyers. Rulers of the rivers, sea and fire. They do not have many depictions but sometimes they are depicted as large Jnuka or Kley, when it comes to their actual religious texts they are said to be manifestations of the items and places they rule over. But in practicality what this means is that they worship a species of creature as demi-gods, known as Jnuka which kill things and use their Essence, seeing them as blessed and they are very important to the culture being used as flying mounts in war, having extensive use in The Great War as well as regional skirmishes in the tri-city area. The Jnuka's powers manifest in being able to summon fire and electricity that exudes from their skin; it is said the ones that do neither are physically stronger, although this is difficult to measure as they are a very reactive species.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Almost all languages above the Jalkuc Desert are descended from proto-kleik; languages below the Jalkuc Desert are much more diverse in their origins and the people of Jalkuc have inherited hugely from both. Kleik, the language most used in the tri-city area is incredibly influential across all of Jshang and The Mantara Isles, being the most common second language across all of Gora, although not the most common first language.

Gender Ideals

There is very little difference between a female and male Kley, as female Kley don't give live birth. There is no expectation on the mothers to take care of the children more than the father - most often both are working in the same field, children become responsible for themselves at a very young age. Kley pairs don't generally last very long; often once the children of a Kley pair are adult the pair will split up.

Wartime Practices

In war Kley generally have two options; negotiations or bomb strikes. You either negotiate a deal with them, that favours them or they use Januka to bomb villages, people, army camps and anything or anyone that refuses to negotiate with them. Their navy is also extremely powerful, they use cannons on large vessels which are loaded quickly via rail systems. While not in war, these vessels are instead used as merchant ships to ferry goods.   They use electric Januka as mid-air bombers, tying sacks full of gunpowder with copper lace or coin on the inside. This way the electricity arcs into it - lighting the gunpowder in midair. Also they have been known to bomb large structures by setting bombs in place, and then having a Januka flying at extremely high altitude, where they won't be spotted by sentries, dive onto the building or near it where they will proceed to light the bombs that have been already placed by a spy. In the production of these bombs, they fill them with small metal balls which are used like frag grenades, which is advantageous for their less troop heavy warring style.
The Father,
"The Kley are a crass and resourceful people. I do not wish to kill them unnecesarily, but if they still act with such stubborn abrasiveness when I reach Anuk Jaklyjy I shall be forced to wipe their race from existence."
Trading Vessels often have three to five different individual traders on them and the vessels business is moving them from A to B. They make their money off of the traders, the traders make their money off of important goods. These vessels are often armed to the teeth with many rows of cannons and ballistas on their bows for airborne attackers as these ships are often carrying very valuable goods. Often traders will join guilds that are made around the cities that they came from, such as the Anuk Jaklyjy. What these guilds do is they pay a certain rate for trading expeditions as a guaranteed amount, then they take twenty percent of all the money made on that trading expedition.
Lifespan: 96 Years They are considered adults at the age of nine; often working apprentice jobs from the age of five. They are only considered children from the age of zero to three. Kley do not retire, they work for their entire life; although often finding more favourable hours and positions as the later portions of their life come on. Usually holding managerial positions. The captains of trade ships often range from the ages sixty to one hundred and it is very rare to see someone in any sort of leadership position who is younger than twenty years old.    Their burial customs usually involve taking the corpse of a dead Kley, straining the Essence from it and then they remove the flesh and preserve the bones in a glycerin solution. Then they lay them in a box that can be unfolded, to present the entire skeleton.
