Language & The Common Tongue

"The Language of the Gods"

The "common tongue" that has circulated pretty much worldwide at this point comes to us courtesy of the very gods themselves. It is known as Celenese (spoken form) and Celent (written form, though many just call the written language Celenese as well), and represents the veritable teachings of the gods, most prominently The Zenithal.   Little is known of the spoken and written (if any) languages of Gothenkind prior to the arrival of Mount Celene and the coming of the gods. Very little archival material survived from those prehistoric ages. Ironically, we only have the history of the Vess'ka to go on, seeing as they never adopted the "common tongue" that was hence introduced by the messengers of Celene.   After the age of the Titans, and during the time of Lumeria, the "messengers of the gods," those beings now known as the Solti (and in less civilized regions the Goblinoids), set out to bring the word of their masters to the human-centric and nascent civilizations of the west. In order to facilitate transmission, they taught the Gothen peoples their own common tongue... Celenese.   Though Celense is the language handed down to the peoples via the messengers of the gods, coming directly from both elven and goblinoid sources, it is neither of those species' native (or preferred) tongue. The elvish races maintain their relatively secretive language most commonly known as simply "elvish" or "Sidhese."   The language of magic, used to manipulate the pervasive quasi-element known as the Eret Si'nu, is based in the the root of Celenese, however it requires special training to decipher and as such cannot be utilized by those who merely know Celenese.   As afore mentioned, the script form of Celenese is (technically) called Celent, however most people simply refer to it as Celenese and make no further distinction.

THE SPREAD OF THE WORD

Though Celense originated in the north of Hariel Majour, it quickly spread south (and wider) through the early empires of the world such as Methanok. It was further stamped upon the land during the arcane exodus after The Sundering, which led a great many northerners to Hariel Minuta.   Though Celenese is the majority language of the south, there remains a secondary common tongue. The language of traders and merchants. They call it World Speak or sometimes Spectrata, or even The Gilded Tongue.   The original common tongue of Golthien was called Golan. This persisted until the arrival of the conquering western marauders known as The Sanguine Order (later known as the Lentokki), who quickly forced Celenese upon the subjugated peoples of the east.

Geographical Distribution

Celenese was introduced to the Gothen peoples in Hariel Majour, but quickly disseminated world-wide, as the conquering peoples spread. It is now the predominant spoken and written tongue of The Known World.
