Urtulan (Half Orcs)
An account of the most fearsome race of reavers, though their population is dwindling...
Less common than in most typical worlds, the Urtulan are the result of the direct (non ancestral) coupling of humans and orcs. On Gothenya, the most prominent "evil" race is slotted by the Isagorn. Orcs are the result of humans mutated by the corrupting wild magic of the Churn (and Celene itself). The fact that they're able to reproduce, thus creating their own race, is either a miracle or a curse, depending on who you ask.
Some half orcs are born from other half orcs, but primarily they are the result of the coupling mentioned above.
Half orcs tend to be slower or more "mad" than other races, which may have something to do with the magic that mutated them to begin with. This is by no means always the case, and some exceptional half orcs are born (likely) from equally exceptional parents (or at least the human parent).
They are typically found amongst the ranks of orcs, as few other races find them socially acceptable. They find themselves constantly having to rail against the stereotypes most cultures tacked to them.
Half orc adventurers are typically those who believe there's more to life than barbaric raids on the "civilized" world. The select few who wish to pursue larger dreams. Most colleges of magic or barding do not accept half orcs, so those who practice The Art commonly are either self taught or apprentices to an open-minded master mage.
They are split on their divine beliefs, with just as many worshipping the gods of men as those of orcs. There are no half orc deities. Many are deeply religious, as this is the closest thing they have to a culture, since everything else in orcish life is about "raiding" and "taking." Sometimes half orcs can be found in the employ of Isagorn armies, as both species are essentially outcasts, and the Isagorn cannot afford to be too choosy with their allies.
Genetic Descendants
Origin/Ancestry
Orcs are said to be the result of humans and elves coming into contact with the perverting waters of The Churn. Other believe orcs to be crossbred experiments between the two races gone awry. Regardless, half-orcs are the progeny of orcs mated w/ humans.
