Fortuna

Lady Luck

Fortuna is the goddess that represents random chance, be it good luck or awful misfortune. She is the patron of gamblers and the bold. Thieves and pirates pray to her that their bounties will be plenty. She is not known for picking sides, allowing the wheel of fate to turn whichever way it wills, and only one mysterious figure in history is said to have truly earned her devotion.   Stories are told of Fortuna's origin and every bard seems to have their own spin on it. The thread connecting each of the stories is thus: Stories speak of Fortuna as once having been human.  Tales tell of Fortuna having a lover before her ascension to godhood, colloquially termed "Fortuna's Beloved".  It has since become a term of endearment and shared joke among her faithful, each claiming to be "Fortuna's Beloved" upon any    When manifested, she appears as both dazzling and sinister. Her eyes are bright as gold and a wheel-shaped halo adorns her head, but her skin is ashen and charcoal coloured, with sharp teeth lining her smiling mouth. She means no harm and is sweet and jovial, but her mere presence brings misfortune to those near her.

Tenets of Faith

Fortuna smiles on those who take chances.  Fortune favours the bold, and as such, those who follow her often take risks and enjoy gambling.  She is easily bored by cautious behaviour and would much rather have something interesting happen, than something good happen.  That said, she doesn't look down on those who are cautious and understands the need for caution thoroughly.

Holidays

Gambler's Glory, or Glorymine, is a celebration involving the betting on many games.  Tables are hauled out into the town square and games of dice, cards and other varieties are set up.  Everyone spends the night gambling, drinking and playing games.  Smaller, more fun games are set up for children and they are given little pouches of candies for winning at them.   Decorations for Glorymine include wreaths of golden leaves, golden lights, and candles.  Partygoers will sometimes have a mage change the colour of their eyes or hair to gold for the evening of the festivities. At the end of the festivities, everyone settles their bets, and it is considered taboo and in bad spirit to refuse to settle, even if its a small amount.
