Furiel

The Sky's Fury

A goddess worshipped only in Sonrheim. Furiel represents the sky, and everything that accompanies it. It is from her that the title Son of the Sky derives. Furiel is considered mother of the original ruler of Sonrheim, the Son of the Sky, and those who were born to rule the snow swept city are considered to be of her blood as well, even if no familial relation to the 1st Son of the Sky is present.   As a patron deity of a specific city, it is unlikely that anyone not from the Barrowdowns would have any knowledge of her. Other demographics that may have heard of her are scholars, dwarves from Baelindir, Dragonborn, Dragons, Kobolds, and in rarer cases, some clerics and priests.   She is worshipped as the mother deity of Sonrheim, and to scorn or disrespect her while within the walls of the northern city would invite exile or worse.   Furiel and her angels are said to have battled dragons long ago, when they tried to wrest control of the skies from her. She was irreparably wounded in the war. Most of the dragons were killed in the conflict, but Furiel lost one of her wings and her left eye.   In the final conflict of the war, Furiel fought one on one with the most ancient of Dragon leaders, Nidrir. The two are said to have mortally wounded each other and fell to earth together, creating the crater that is now Sofjall, the Snoring Summit.   Those who live in Sonrheim have a hatred for Dragons and their ilk, and it stems from the death of Furiel.   Though Furiel was said to have been killed in the war, those of Sonrheim believe her spirit to linger on, and guide them from beyond death.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Sonrheim depicts Furiel in statues as an angelic looking woman, clad in armour and wielding a sword, but missing her right wing and a scar across her left eye. It is considered in bad taste to depict her as dead, but showing her wounds is essential as to not forget what she sacrificed for her children. In symbols, Furiel is depicted by a single wing, a feather, and occasionally a wing and a sword crossing each other.

Tenets of Faith

Furiel represents righteous fury, to stand for your people and for family and to fight to protect them. She is a figure that represents strength and sacrifice to the people of Sonrheim. She is said to smile on those who stand unflinching in their ideals, even in the face of death. She is, of course, also the patron goddess of the sky, and all that comes with it (clouds, weather, birds, etc).

Holidays

The people of Sonrheim celebrate Heavenswake, a festival on the supposed day of Furiel's death, the 23rd day of Vrasha. This feast is held to honour the sacrifice Furiel made to save her children and is always accompanied by the northern lights streaking through the skies over Sonrheim. The Son of the Sky holds a toast at the beginning of the feast, along with a prayer to Furiel, thanking her. Festivities include ice sculptures, bathing in the hot springs of Sonrheim, and dancing late into the night.
