The Candletree Consortium
Located in the coastal city of Marinhal, the Candletree Library is a place for researchers of the arcane to congregate. The group was founded by Avagadro Candletree, a wealthy wizard who made his name acting as Court Wizard and Arcane Consult to the Mariesoix family before retiring amicably and building a library with their blessing. Since then, he has taken many young students under his wing, especially those from the wizardly school of scribes. He uses his knowledge and funding to support the research of ambitious young thinkers, encouraging outside the box solutions and eccentric practices.
Goals:
In addition to funding arcane research, Avagadro has been slowly attempting to acquire rare tomes and pieces of knowledge that have been lost to time. Wizards often document their research in thoroughly detailed books, but occasionally those wizards die without taking apprentices, are killed (sometimes by their own experiments), or have their workshops destroyed (also sometimes by their own experiments). Avagadro believes that it would be a shame to lose that knowledge forever, and has been attempting to locate and collect the lost research.
Requirements of Joining:
Avagadro takes on many students who he wishes to aid in their enterprises. They vary from explorers and adventurers who are searching from something, to arcane scholars and spellcasters who are researching magical mysteries. All in all, Avagadro recruits those who are seeking something, whether it be knowledge, answers or objects.
Benefits of Joining the Guild:
Avagadro Candletree started the Candletree Consortium to allow himself an opportunity to take on young spellcasters as apprentices. He wants to mentor and fund the research of those who might have otherwise been passed over or been driven down the wrong path.
Lodgings.
Those who align with the Consortium's goals will always find a bed there. The researchers each have room and board that they can do with what they please. Avagadro's animated objects provide three square meals a day for those staying at the Archives. These amenities are provided free of charge.
The Cosmos.
Avagadro has built an astronomy tower at the very top of the Consortium's headquarters. He uses it to study the stars, but also as a Sending Hall. With the elaborate leylines Master Candletree has scrawled across the floorboards, he can channel powerful teleportation magic. He uses this magic circle to teleport his disciples closer to where they need to go, to speed the progress of their research.
Workshops.
Each researcher who Avagadro sponsors is given place in the workshops to conduct their research.
Connections.
Avagadro Candletree was the trusted Arcane Advisor of the Mariesoix family for many years and even took on young Selkie Mariesoix as one of his first apprentices. As such, he still sits in good favour with the family that sit as Lords of the entire surrounding barony of Marinhal. This allows him to curry certain favours in order to advance the goals of the guild.
