The Son of the Sky

The Son of the Sky is the title given to the ruler of Sonrheim. The name derives from the very first ruler of Sonrheim, who was said to be the child of Furiel. In fact, the title predates the name of the city, as "Sonrheim" means Home of the Son in their native tongue.   Despite how it sounds, the title of Son of the Sky has been held by women in the past, as the only qualification is that you are the greatest warrior in all of Sonrheim. The title passes down when the old Son is unable to fight or is killed. If the old Son of the Sky is still alive when the title is passed down, it is considered tradition that the previous Son be kept as council and advisor for the new Son.   Past Sons of the Sky:   1st Son of the Sky, "Hraesvelgr's Bane"   2nd Son of the Sky, “Ysabella the Stubborn   3rd Son of the Sky, “Bastille the Wolf   4th Son of the Sky, “Hasko Light-Bringer   5th Son of the Sky, “Hestia the Golden   6th Son of the Sky, “Wulfric Shatter-star   7th Son of the Sky, “Celestine the Swift   8th Son of the Sky, “Nyrenna the Noble   9th Son of the Sky, “Thordren the Hunter   10th Son of the Sky, “Hilde the Beloved   11th and Current Son of the Sky, “Danje the Unbreakable

Qualifications

The Son of the Sky is a title given to the strongest warrior in Sonrheim. "Strongest" doesn't just mean physical strength, but strength in conviction and spirit as well. Traditionally, it is given to one that is born in Sonrheim, and plans to remain in Sonrheim to rule. If an outsider were to simply visit and attempt to prove they're the strongest person in the city, they would not be qualified to rule.

Responsibilities

It is the duty of the Son of the Sky to watch over their subjects, hold large hunting parties, oversee the training of the Dragonknights, and fight in any conflicts that arise. The Son of the Sky is considered by the people of Sonrheim to be blessed with strength by Furiel herself, and that her power will bring them to new heights should they need it.
