Rauism

A belief in one god is a hard belief to acquire for many in the Haela. But in the Republic of Rauhir belief in one god is a belief many are born to accept.

Rauism is one of the largest religion in the Republic, and the largest organized religion. Officially, they only have the power to help the faithful, but Rauists are everywhere, and the network of power is undeniably strong. Offend the Rauist Temple and your life gets very hard very quickly.

Structure

The Rauist Temple is headed by the Holy Prophet, speaker for Rau herself. Beneath the Holy Prophet is the Council of Saints, who are chosen from the Saints who each head a Temple. Beneath the Saints are the congregants and the faithful, with many positions unique to each Temple and its needs.

Public Agenda

Rauists profess to love the common people and only want to help, but they form a powerful and broad section of society. Most of the leaders of Rauism simply want to expand their power and convert more followers. While they are quite clear on their expansionist ideals, they hide it beneath a kind wish to "help the lost souls of this mortal world find their path beneath the protection of the almighty Rau". While they can't afford to denounce the many other religions common in the Republic of Rauhir, their disdain for non-monotheistic religions is quite clear in their doctrines.

Divine Origins

This religion supposedly formed in the midst of social revolution in mid-800s Mahmougafi. The story goes that Mahmougafi was under control of a militaristic tribe, but the diverse population of the small trading town had nothing to unite them against their conquerors. The first Holy Prophet was captured and tortured by the ruling tribe for daring to speak against them. In the bright arena where the Holy Prophet was held, he heard the word of Rau as she freed him from his captors. He went on to proclaim the one true god and with his holy power, united the people of Mahmougafi and overthrew the cruel conquerors.

Tenets of Faith

The first tenet of Rauism is the unity and the belief in one god. The faithful must renounce spirits and accept the power of Rau. They must hold their houses open to strangers, and help others see the light of the true god.

Priesthood

Saints guide the faithful to holiness with their supposed god-given magic. They are the ambitious and the faithful, appointed by the Council of Saints and the Holy Prophet.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Rauist Temple is the shadow organization that runs the Republic of Rauhir. Its influence and power in every level of the government is growing by the day. Even non-believers are careful not to offend the Temple in fear of the possible retribution.
