Twelve-Year's War
Two years after the first invasion of the most northern islands in the Southern Archipelago, localized and smaller groups fought within the conquered territory. They were beaten eventually, but for every fighter they lost, the Empire lost three soldiers. Only the overwhelming numbers managed to win over the Alliance's local support and devious tactics.
When the Aelgari Empire essentially had conquered the Southern Archipelago, the local Islanders fought back immediately, using guerilla-warfare techniques. The Empire imposed stricter and stricter punishments to try and keep their new citizens in check. Their tactics backfired, provoking the earlier apathetic and isolated general Islander population to become involved. Within months, their close allies, the Monomak, arrived with a huge naval fleet and an accompaniment of kraken. The Aelgari fleet destroyed whatever small ships they happened upon, but took severe losses in the underground resistance of the occupied islands. The war officially ended with the Battle of Tifae, when the Monomak and K'hili fleets were destroyed trying to reoccupy one of the major city-centers, Tifae. The Monomak fled to keep their independence and the islands are still mutinous. Because of the geography of the K'hili Nation, the Aelgari Empire still has not reached most of the small islands, who have mostly gone back into isolation to try and keep their independence.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Aelgari Empire invaded the Southern Archipelago in their ongoing conquest.
Outcome
The Aelgari Empire imposed strict martial law on the newly annexed territories. The Monomak Nation retreated back to the seas, cutting off their contact with land even further. The Empire brought back gold and riches taken from their conquests.
Aftermath
Islanders in northern islands were forced to culturally assimilate. Many migrated to the Mainland, but severe prejudice generally kept them in the lower class jobs and areas. Defeating the K'hili Nation gave the Aelgari Empire the resources to expand to the east into the Republic of Rauhir. The islands remained rebellious, and Monomak were considered pirates rather than a seafaring nation.
