A Changeling in the Dragon's Court
Episode 1 of Makar
Life in Ibaisha has been mixed for Makar. The avatar of The Masked One is certainly not in the worst position, with a family home on the better-off Aizari Island district of the massive city of Etekamo (one of the largest cities in the world!). But the affliction of Makar's father with Gem Plague ended that, as the family's finances strained to consistently afford the Kilusha medicine needed to prevent advancement of the disease. As the ongoing trade war with Esedeta had led to skyrocketing medicine prices, Makar was forced to look for a way to make money - either a daring passage to the distant land of Ibith, or something closer to home. Makar ultimately chose to enter the court of Maina Eramzir, for tutelage as a sorcerer. Court life was full of constraints, judgment, and dissapointment, but it got Makar both medicine and sorcerer training. Increasing pressure to act as an agent for Maina as well as frustration by Makar at government failure to contain a smallpox epidemic led to Makar revealing their nature as an avatar to them and speaking to Orchid of Blue, Theia the Liberator, and Wimbo Aizitu. Ultimately, this was a mixed blessing: while Makar was given vital information and political power, their location (but not identity) was also passed onto the local paladins of Wimbo, who revealed it to the greater public in a speech and spectacle. Not long after, a strange series of blights and desolations began occuring along the coastlines of Ekraht, heading towards Ibaisha. To investigate this oncoming threat and race through it, Makar and company now embarks on a selkie vessel northward. Will Makar uncover this strange new threat? What will they find in Aysha's court in Shirpatra? And what of these strange murmurings about The Khilaia? Tune in next time for Makar's Odyssey AdventureComponents

Ezia: Ezia is a neighbor and childhood friend of Makar. She is shy, bookish, and curious, always drawn to learning more about foreign lands and new things but held back by her social anxiety. Much of that anxiety melts away when she is around her friends, who she will follow to the ends of the Earth. Ezia comes from a brewing family with connections to The Circles. Knows the truth about Makar.
Dailio: Dailio is a selkie outpost child that has spent the last few years manning the storefronts of the selkie district of Echereko. Dailio is extroverted, polite, and open-minded, a bold and cheery business boy who hopes to one day be a merchant like his parents. Dailio is sharp of eye and has basic dueling training, but is a relentless rules-follower when not balanced out by Ezia or Makar. Knows the truth about Makar.
Mesaba family: Makar's family works as Windweaverss on the boundary between the lower and middle classes. None of them know the truth about Makar, though Marraf has always been aware that Makar is more than he appears.
- Mazaru Meseba, Makar's father, was raised by a family that clung to status long after their wealth had dried up. Afflicted with Gem Plague, Mazaru is deeply ashamed on the financial toll he has placed upon his family.
- Taina Meseba, Makar's mother, was born a windweaver and has lived her life dutifully. She is determined to keep the family together, no matter what
- Koyevi Meseba, Makar's older sister and eldest of the siblings, always wanted to enter the priesthood but has accepted being a windweaver part time while she wrangles the rest of the family chores and children. Kind, obedient, and a bit overworked.
- Marraf Meseba, Makar's older brother and middle child, is a bit of a recluse that hates living in the city and generally wants to live in the woods away from society as a hunter/farmer. Marraf is a problem child that struggles to relate to the family, and Makar has promised to help him get away from all this
Neutrals/Bystanders
