Frostfire Rail

The Frostfire rail is train line that connects many of the major cities throughout Thrail. The train is powered by Zellium and propels goods and passengers along a pair of parallel rails at high speeds. It gets its name from the frost that forms oin its carts and rails following by the trailing lightning from the train that often ignites detritus near the rails.

Components

Carts

Most lightning rails have about 10 carts, the maximum an elemental can propel without becoming strained. The typical configuration is two crew carts at the front and back of the train, four passenger carts, two lounge carts, and two cargo carts

Rails

Rails are made from Pyrime, an enchanted alloy of silver and ygthol that is highly condictive and repels itself proportional to the difference in temperature. The bottom of the railcars are also lined with this metal. The carts cool their Pyrime, and the tracks heat it by means of electrial discharge from leading train car, to achieve an opposite repelling force that levitates the train above the tracks for near frictionless motion along the tracks.

Propulsion

The trailing cart, called the Crew Cart, uses Zellium to both heat the rails and cool the underside of the carts. A small Zellium Reaction Chamber is used to react zellium and typically enchanted rods of silver and ayrium. The discharge of lightning is directed down from the cart into the rails which heats them up rapidly. Meanwhile, the produced quintessence is used to cast spells that freeze the train's Pyrime. The timing of the rails heating and cooling allows a train to control breaking forces while any excess quintessence is used to push the train along, usually by means of air displacement spells.   This means that speed is somewhat dependent on the climate through which a track is laid, as swings in temperature will have a meaningful effect on the temperature differential of the Pyrime.

Solo Travel

Simple carts exists that are intended for solo travel that use quintessence along with the Levitation spell & a heating or cooling spell. These vehicles travel slower (due to the lower temperature differential) and can carry a lot less weight.
