Caldeth Clan

Clan Caldeth has been important in the affairs of Vemionshire since the time of Lothrim the Foulspawner. Historically, Clan Caldeth ruled from Zoben Keep to the west of Minarsas. The clan betrayed Aidrik II in the Kaldoric Civil War, but managed to retain most of their lands upon the restoration of the House of Artane.   During the Baronial Revolt, Earl Hernal of Vemion and his sons were murdered by an ambitious captain of the guard. Baron Colm Caldeth raised a force from Earl Hernal's loyal supporters, retook Minarsas after a siege and executed the rebels.   When Haldan the Elder accepted the Kaldoric crown in 603, Baron Colm Caldeth was made the 14th Earl of Vemion and Sheriff of Vemionshire in 607. His own wife having died on the road during the opening skirmishes of the Baronial Revolt, Colm Caldeth married Alana Hernal, the widow of Earl Hernal.   In 643, Wilfrod's son Elfrod was insulted by Aras Dariune at a feast in Tashal. In the resulting duel Elfrod was killed, leaving his 7 year old son as heir to the earldom. When Wilfrod died the next year, Jered was made a ward of the King until reaching his majority.   In 650, Jered gained some level of notoriety by fathering twin sons. A marriage was quickly arranged, but Jered never loved his wife and saw her seldom. In 674, Jered died of an infected wound received at the Battle of Ramala Gap.   The elder twin, Elfrod, succeeded as Earl of Vemion, but died barely a month later at the walls of Burzyn. The younger twin, Celed, had been destined for the church of Larani and was somewhat reluctant to leave his vows to take up the earldom. Finally, in 676, he relented and succeeded as the 18th Earl of Vemion.   Declaen Caldeth became the 19th Earl of Vemion when Celed died peacefully in 709. He is a brilliant manager of assets, but less so of men. The earl's great weakness is his inability to delegate. As such, he makes every important decision himself and tends to micromanage his subordinates. This frustrates and annoys his retainers.   Declaen's older sister Colonia married Sir Ferin Ubael, a cousin of the Baron of Uldien. Sir Ferin perished in a shipwreck three years ago.   Declean's younger brother Rindan is the Royal Ostler and resides in Tashal. Sir Rindan has developed a drinking problem since the accidental death of his wife, Lady Solia, three years ago. Lady Solia was the sister of the Baron of Ternua. Sir Rindan's son, Heber, is a Squire at Nenda.   The earl's wife, Lady Ialny, suffered a terrible palsy several years ago which left her crippled and speechless. Although she is mostly bedridden, the earl's devotion to her is undiminished.   The earl's oldest daughter, Lady Thilisa, is married to Earl Sedris Meleken of Osel. His only son, Sir Urian, is a 22 year old carouser of the first order. Sir Urian's arrogant demeanor has made him unwelcome in some places, an issue his father uncharacteristically ignores. The earl's youngest daughter, Maid Camissa, is a romantic teen who dreams of life exploring the wide world. She fancies herself a Peonian and reads whatever she can find on that church, praying more to the Lady of Truth than her father considers reasonable.
