Awoken

Physicality: The calm and quiet Awoken elves are lean and have various shades of dark-grey skin, light gray to white hair and long pointed ears. They also have faintly glowing white eyes, making their pupils barely visible. A thin layer of a faint radiant light lies underneath their dark grey skin, only revealed once breached. Most Awoken thus purposefully scar themselves and create faintly glowing tattoos. These tattoos often represent their tribe, settlement or religion that other Awoken share and receiving such a tattoo is seen as a rite of passage. Where Mutes are often athletic and muscular, Awoken tend to be less so, since they no longer rely on physical prowess alone.   Emerging Settlements: All Awoken have received their powers within the last few years, but none know why or how this started happening. Some are born with it, while others suddenly wake up to newly discovered radiant magic and glowing eyes, hence the name “Awoken”. Within elven society, many believe that Awoken don’t carry the burden of being magicless, and are seen as unnatural or privileged, and are both respected and feared. A divide has been developing rapidly, causing the Awoken to form their own societies and groups away from the spiteful Mutes. Many Mutes still respect their former brethren, seeing them as leaders or even religious figures. Many Awoken thus struggle to control their magic, leading to unfortunate accidents in crowded areas. Due to their unstable nature, Awoken are often banished or sent to the emerging Awoken settlements, where more experienced individuals support each other in dealing with their newly found powers. This often leads them to abandon their former nomadic lifestyle and seek refuge with their fated kin, willingly or otherwise. This has resulted in the first true elvish settlements in Haven.   Calm before the storm: The radiant magic within each Awoken causes their personality to be more reserved and calm, making the Awoken friendly and trustworthy. They often tend to be righteous and just, seeking out evil and corruption with the goal of cleansing the darkness. However, their unstable nature can lead to a sudden change in temperament when in a stressful situation. It is common to see an Awoken suddenly burst with uncontrolled rage and anger during a rough battle, pouring light to pour out of their eyes, mouth and tattoos, blinding enemies and allies alike. They tend to collect themselves quite quickly, and the older an Awoken gets, the more they are in control of these outbursts. They are thus often approached with caution by others, even though they are mostly friendly and quiet.
