Kingston, Jamaica - Fiction from Adam Nathaniel Davis

Kingston, Jamaica

I take great pride in knowing that Hegemony International is the greatest thing to ever happen to the people of Kingston. If they're too blind to see it, I can hardly be blamed for their ignorance.
Reginald Howell, founder and CEO of Hegemony International
K
ingston, Jamaica, is the spiritual home of Hegemony International and the location of its "official" headquarters. Reginald Howell established Hegemony in Kingston in 1946. For the first 50 years of its existence, the "company" was a tiny organization, barely even acknowledged by the local population.

Spiritual Home
Beginning in the year 2000, Hegemony underwent a period of massive expansion that continues to this day. As part of this expansion, national headquarters were established in many worldwide cities having little-or-no connection with Kingston. As such, the company still recognizes Kingston as the location of its "official" headquarters, and it's usually the presumed location of Reginald Howell, but the bulk of corporate decisionmaking typically occurs in other locations.

Local Tensions
Most of Kingston's native population has a love/hate relationship with Hegemony International. On one hand, Hegemony's unbridled success has led to a dramatic increase in the country's prosperity. On the other hand, the company makes a habit of rarely hiring Jamaican employees. Even worse, Hegemony employees, working out of the Kingston offices, are generally seen as rude, condescending, and outright racist.
