David Slate

Captain of the Tilly

David Tremond Slate was a capable sailor in the Wythian Navy of Acton when his father, Elijah Slate, was killed in a raid on Sinopan forces. It was at this time that Slate, who was on his father's light warship, the Revival, took command and plotted revenge. Unfortunately, in a pitched battle against a Sinopan raiding group, the Revival was sunk with Slate and everyone aboard.   It was at this time David Slate, in his moments before death, was contacted by the Ela, The Coral Fisherman. This archfey bestowed upon Slate a second chance, as well as replacing one of his eyes with the Eye of the Allfather, allowing Slate to peer through the channels of magic not many men of his caliber could.   Following this event, Slate washed upon Sinopan Shores with little memory of his resurrection, and used his newfound abilities and instincts to free several captured Wythian sailors from a prison and steal a Sinopan cutter, the Juniper Tilly. Upon returning to Acton as heroes, the Tilly was modified as a blockade runner, and Slate with his crew made a name for themselves as the finest couriers in the Wythian navy.   It was around the year 428 when Slate, now under the direct command of Lord Philip of Acton, was employed to assist the Argent Company in sneaking past the Sinopan blockade following the death of the royal witch Eathelyn Cothred. This operation was successful, and Slate led the Company to Sevnónicha, where he also played his own part in the grand political schemes - proposing an alliance from not the Wythian Empire, but Acton alone wishing to ally with Queen Viara Mikalovna.   Tragically, following the untimely sacrifice of Vesser Rantari Highmore in Sevnónicha, the Company and Slate followed the Amber Lord's plan to return Vesser to life. Unknowingly, this ritual killed David Slate instantly, his body replaced by Vesser's soul in a profane ritual - beginning Vesser's guilt-ridden, unstable desire for revenge against the Ela.   Slate's soul was put to rest from the Dreamstride when Vesser, during a ritual contacting the Coral Fisherman, pulled his soul from the cursed realm and allowed him to move on, meeting his family in the afterlife.
