Niloofar

The largest port city, and capitol of the Kingdom of Barazár, Niloofar was one of the first cities to be established by the Azariáns.

Origin

Azárian legend claims that when the first of their people landed in what is now Barazár, their leader, Barkati (Imperial Wythian: Blessed by the Sun) wandered into the sunken ruins of a peoples long forgotten, walking past the overgrowth that had reclaimed the land. As he explored and envisioned his peoples future, he saw the shape of a woman dash behind a tree and away into the surrounding forest. Giving chase, he eventually had to retreat back, but vowed he would not stop searching for her. Months would pass and whispers of this mysterious women passed through the newly erected camp, with people feeling her watchful eyes on them as they cut trees and explored the surrounding land. Barkati would find himself alone in the neighboring forest bathing in a nearby sinkhole, when he turned and peering through the forest was her. She was tall, taller then any Azárian man, with hair as white as a waves crest and skin to match. She moved as if she were water, and stared at him with grey eyes. When she reached Barkati, she embraced him, before vanashing into the very water he stood in. Weeks would pass, and Barkati would return to visit her multiple times, learning her name was Niloofar, a water spirit whom claimed dominion over the rivers, streams, and ponds. Declaring their love for each other, Barkati would marry her and name his peoples new city after her, and together sire children whom would carry on their mother's grey eyes, and affinity for water. The sinkhole where they met, can still be found in Niloofar, surrounded by guards and enjoyed by its citizens.

Defences

Niloofar is defended by two large stone walls that protect the city from any attack by land. The outer wall surrounds the entire city and stretches for miles. Access to the city by land is restricted to three gates, the Damár (Dragon) Gate which faces the North, the Hamnyád (to be of friendship/comrade) Gate which faces the East, and the Abètk (Lonely) Gate which faces the South. The largest of the three gates is the Hamnyád which accepts most of their inland trade, primerily from Lagona.
The inner wall stands taller then the outer, and protects the inner districts and imperial palace.
