The Pillars of the First Men
Beyond the coast of Dekmire, between it and The Calling Sea. There are some One-Hundred and eighty-six dark rock formations jutting up from the water like grasping fingers. Scattered about just enough that ships can only pass through single file. These are the Pillars of the First Men. Rock formations that were forced up from the ground beneath the water in geographic repercussion of the cataclysm that struck Old Artea. The First Homeland of Men.
The name is given to these pillars, for the statues carved out of them by the Artean Men after they had settled in The Heartland after their flight from the Old Homeland. Carving the statues in tribute to those of their numbers that remained on the shores of Artea, to hold back the wrath of the Cruel Arteans. Giving time for the Virtuous Arteans to escape.

Purpose / Function
These great statues were carved out of the rock formations in tribute to the brave from among the Artean Men who stayed behind to fight the Cruel Arteans and give their good hearted kin time to escape. Knowing they would die either by the hands of the Cruel Arteans, or from the cataclysm that would avenge them.
Alterations
Time and Sea weather have worn the statues down. Groups of masons funded by universities and wealthy nobles alike sail out to them to determine their condition and work to restore them.
Architecture
The Statues are of Heroes from among the Artean Men. The men who stayed behind to give their people time to escape without pursuit. The craftsmanship is simple, yet elegant for its cultural origin. Artean Craftsmanship is, after all, the Mother of all the Crafts of the Races of Men. And is still appreciated to this day.
History
When the Artean Men sailed in escape from the destruction of Old Artea. The Fleet led by Animar The Honored were met by the first rising of tall dark rock formations from the waters of The Calling Sea. Many of their ships were damaged or sank against them. Luckily enough however, the Men who sailed on the crashed ships were saved. But the fleet would sail single file and spread apart in order to circumnavigate the sprawl of rocks.
In later days. Animar, who was newly crowned by Caemar and his people who loved him, as the First King of Men, declared that statues should be commissioned in tribute and commemoration of those brave hearts that stayed behind to meet cruel blades and inescapable devastation. So that the innocent would escape and live. A task that would take two hundred years. And would be among the last of Animars declarations before he died of Old Age.
