Corrin Vankrellen is the stalwart captain of the
Briga Townsguard. Never anything less than stoic, the only thing that hints at his personality behind the emblem of the captain is the way he ties his black hair loosely behind his head. Whereas the alderman of
Briga is a man for the people, Vankrellen is indoubtedly a man for the task, a steadfast presence the town of
Briga was in dire need of at the time of his assumption of the post.
Originally, Vankrellen enlisted for the king's army and was immediately given the rank of a lieutenant rather by name than by merit due to being a member of the wealthy and powerful
Vankrellen family. Because of this, he vacated the position shortly after taking it up and left to become a guard in
Briga, where he has been for six years now and served as Captain of the Guard for two years. Although he can never quite escape the sphere of influence of his distinguished family,
Briga is as far away as he can get. Even if his relatives try to contact him on a regular basis. While of course everyone of rank in
Briga knows of the Vankrellens, most of the townsfolk do not know the big names in the arena of politics, and so their Guard-Captain can go around without drawing much attention with his name and enjoys the anonymity he has build for himself. He remains very closed off to the townsfolk and offcials of the town and always tries to catch attention with his deeds rather than needless controversies.
Generally, the Guard-Captain is well respected by the population of
Briga, but many people do not find it hard to develop a grudge against him. Corrin Vankrellen adheres strictly to rules and is not known to yield any ground after he has once taken up a position. As a
Vankrellen he remains unimpressed by wealth and is adamant to prevent any acceptance of bribery in the ranks of the townsguard, which often puts him at odds with the
local baron. Vankrellen is known to encourage indivdual fighting styles and also other useful interests in his guardsmen and is often seen training with them. For this reason, the
Briga Townsguard is rather well-equipped and trained for a smalltown guard. The Captain himself favours different fighting styles with shortswords, but is also capable with axes, a longsword and shield, as well as daggers. He has proven on different occasion to have an impeccable aim. His versatily likely comes from the privileged and early training he has enjoyed at the Vankrellen esate and later in the Imperial army. It is often joked that Vankrellen is far too good a fighter to only be stationed in a small and boring town such as Briga. Yet, it seems the man himself is content where he is, even if he often complains about the town and is being grumpy about it.
Since taking up the office as Captain of the Guard in
Briga, Corrin Vankrellen has not reprised any form of contact with his family or any relatives anymore. He has found a similar opponent in
Jaspar Arlstaph the Baron of Vensia, under which influence
Briga falls, who had been an influential person in building the town up to what it is today. The baron holds significant influence over the alderman, who is Vankrellen's direct superior, and often foregoes the correct ways of communication to order the Guard-Captain around directly. Similar to his own family, Corrin does not trust the baron Arlstaph and by now is convinced that standing up against families and individuals who hold their wealth over others seems to be his lot in life.
Recently, the town of Briga is in a precarious situation due to many young man leaving to serve in Arlstaph's new mercenary enterprise. This situation leaves the town more and more in need of the calm and collected presence of its Guard-Captain as the alderman often seems too overwhelmed by his tasks since Arlstaph is away at foreign courts. In turn the local bishop has started to get involved in matters more often himself, as the church seems to stand against both the alderman's and Vankrellen's solutions to the town's problems.
