The Swill

The Odo district of Cherut Das is unlike any others for a variety of reasons, chief amongst them being that there is no family to represent this district and as such it often goes in its own direction. In the past, the Odo district did in fact have a family, but the Great Breach led to many homes being lost at sea, leading the district without many native residents. Instead of rebuilding and starting the game of politics all over again, the Odo district became something much greater. It became The Swill. A variety of bars, taverns, restaurants, entertainment clubs, whatever one's heart may desire make up the entirety of The Swill. In the wake of losing so many residents, the Odo district focused itself not towards it native residents, but towards the many travelers that would visit the city on a regular basis. As they began to visit the different establishments of The Swill, the Swill continued to grow and diversify, leading to more and more places for patrons to call home.   As time passed, many of these establishments grew to have regular clientele. Some people claim that the loyalties that people have for their regular Swill establishments are even stronger than that for their home districts, and that's not entirely without merit. One of the unspoken rules of the Odo district is that you leave whatever turf war that came with you at the door. In the Swill, two people can be friends in their establishment and enemies in their own districts.   This isn’t to say that rivalries don’t exist in The Swill, but they are based on loyalties to places within The Swill rather than district loyalties. A simple argument about whether the Golden Graap or Ur’Lon’s has better drinks can lead to a rivalry that can last years. Most of these rivalries don’t rise to the level that the district rivalries though, most often ending with some sort of contest with humiliating stakes as opposed to deaths.   On occasion, things will escalate though, but not violence. Instead, groups and establishments will band together to create massive festivals and tournaments to crown The Swill King, regardless of who they are. While this title is ultimately meaningless, it does carry a sort of honor that will follow someone in Cherut Das for the rest of their days.   Not everyone comes to The Swill for food, drink and entertainment though. Though plenty of regulars call Cherut Das their home, it also attracts many travelers. Of these travelers, it is widely known that much like the Grand Bazaar, The Swill may be a good way to find work. It's assumed that if you’re tough and wily enough to survive the Venutian wildlands that you’re good enough to get whatever it is they need, and most of the time they’re right.
