The Spire
"Oh yes, welcome to The Spire... Oh that vast tower? Yes, that is the Spire. What do you mean? No it's not that confusing really, the city in which you stand is The Spire, but the old tower is the Spire... See? No... You know what, never mind, just enjoy your stay." - Watchman at the city gates
Demographics
The Spire is a primarily Human (Including Half-Elf and Half-Orc), however it also has a large Dragonborn population;
- Human: 55%
- Dragonborn: 25%
- Halfling: 8%
- Dwarf 5%
- Elf: 2%
- Other: 5%
Government
The Spire is broken down into 8 districts. The central district is the Spire itself, which is ruled by a guild known only as the 'Knowledge'. This district stays to it's own devices, and does not meddle in outside politics. The remaining 7 districts spiral out from the center of the city, each ruled by a different noble family.
The 7 sections of the city belong to the following families, listed Clockwise (starting at the north-most section):
- House Drelde
- House Dracus
- House Crowsend
- House Bararral
- House Aintoll
- House Aviv
- House Ra’Ees
Defences
The Spire is a walled city, offering it some protection from outside attack. Each of the 7 noble families also sustain a standing military, as much to protect the city from outside attack, as to protect themselves from the other families.
Infrastructure
Resources in this area are not particularly rich, but the area outside the walls does host some farmlands, and the nearby mines do produce some metals. Most of the city's wealth comes from trade, as many wealthy scholars and mages visit the city to learn what they can about the ancient relic at it's center.
Assets
The town of The Spire is home to many of the worlds grandest libraries and magical academies. The Spire itself (the massive tower at its center) is home to even greater mysteries, but few know how to access this ancient and dangerous place.
Guilds and Factions
The 8 sections of the city belong to the following families, or guilds:
- House Drelde - Master craftsmen, woodworkers, smiths and builders
- House Dracus – Servants of the Platinum Dragon, a Dragonborn community
- House Crowsend – Master horsemen and traveling merchants
- House Bararral – Farmers, brewers and vintners
- House Aintoll – Arcanists and scholars
- House Aviv – Merchants, travelers and explorers
- House Ra’Ees – Artists, makers, spiritualists and free thinkers
- The Knowledge - Secretive scholars and mages, living in or on the Spire itself
History
The Spire was originally a series of small research and archeological camps set up to study the Spire itself. However over time these camps grew into villages, and eventually merged into one city.
