Abadon

The Abadon of the Amaranthine Sepulchre is a series of structures where Kōsites and non-believers can be treated for a variety of physical, mental, and spiritual ailments.

Purpose / Function

The abadon is a series of structures which cater to Kōsites and non-believers that seek to heal their bodies, minds, and souls through ritual and prayer.   Supplicants are ritually purified in a series baths. They then give offerings to Kōs before spending the night in an underground chamber adjacent to the Sepulchre. Any dreams or visions are then reported to a priest who prescribes the appropriate therapy via a process of interpretation. Trained vipers freely traverse the space as well, and it is believed that a lick from one of their forked tongues can cure any ailment. Those who cannot afford to give an offering to Kōs can instead simply have a ritual bath and a prayer session with an acolyte who holds the viper to the supplicant. It is believed that if Kōs sees that you are to play a role in the great Ouroboros of life, then you will be healed through the snake’s touch. Moreover, if you are bitten by a snake in the abadon, the snake’s venom will act as a healing agent—though it is also believed that a snake bite means Kōs has seen you commit a grave sin for which you must repent.

Sensory & Appearance

You are led through the sahn passage ways until you find yourself walking past several open air chambers. Warm, sulfur-scented steam rises from in-ground pools where a number of supplicants bath in the ritual waters. An altar to the Coiled Hermit with various offerings of livestock, coin, and incense. You see a series of soft beds beneath thatched canopies. A number of supplicants stretch their bodies like dancers at the direction of a priestess. And all the while, as you walk you see dozens, if not hundreds of snakes. They appear hanging from the rafters, slithering along the hallways, warming themselves by the fires, and even draped along the necks of some of the supplicants.
