Hoomans

Created by Nanotide
A Group of Nasgovian Hoomans
Hoomans are known as a very private and masked race, preferring to keep their true selves hidden, especially from other races. Their average height ranges from 5’9” - 6,0”. They have pink blood.
They have round, bright eyes that can be a variety of colours. As a child, they are usually brightly coloured, though their skin pales and becomes more desaturated as they get older, at around 15 years old. They have a pair of small horns on their head that start off as smooth bumps as a child and grow to an average height and diameter of 2 inches.
Hoomans also have an acute sense of taste, being able to taste extremely small traces of substances in their food. They can also pick up a lot of information from the dirt they consume.
They aren’t the strongest of races, however, they are very durable and have a high endurance. Their skin is sensitive to the sun, which isn’t too much of a problem since they stay covered most of the time anyway.   Hoomans are a unisex race and don’t have a concept of gender.

General Description

Eyes

A Hooman child is born with four eyes, which then increases in number the older they get. Eyes generally appear in pairs, though Hoomans can have an odd number of eyes due to illness or malnutrition. Eye alignment is dependant on the hooman’s parent/s.

A Hooman will have on average a set of 6 eyes that begin to appear around 10 years old and are expected to have developed by 15. Mature hoomans develop another set from around 35 years; expecting to have a total of 8 eyes by the age of 45.

Skin

As a child, they are usually brightly coloured, though their skin pales and becomes more desaturated as they get older, at around 15 years old. Their skin is sensitive to the sun, which is part of the reason they stay covered up.
Hoomans are able to tan, though it is extremely difficult to find a Hoomans that takes part in that.

Teeth

They have two sets of teeth, the more prominent sharp teeth at the front for tearing and biting, and a set of stronger flatter teeth behind to break small rocks.

Hair

Hooman hair is generally hidden but is just encouraged to be kept clean and tidy. Children are usually seen with longer hair as it helps keep them warm.
Short hair is usually seen as a sign of maturity as a lot of adolescent Hoomans choose to cut it in their teen years.

Current Known Locations

Economy

Agriculture

While hoomans don’t necessarily eat plants, they encourage a large variety of plants to grow as it helps keep the soil fertile as well as being used in other ways, like medicine.   Hoomans thrive wherever the soil is fertile. They usually thrive in forested areas, but they also do very well in wetlands, even if they're not exactly fond of water.

Domestic Animals/Herding

While Hoomans don’t usually go out of their way to eat meat, they do look after various animals that they cultivate for nutrients and resources.
Hoomans monitor many creatures that are not under their direct care to try and prevent the spread of diseases that could threaten local populations.

Hunting/Gathering

Hoomans have mostly lost the need to hunt creatures after domesticating them, but do use rifles if needed for things like population control.   Early Hoomans would hunt in groups and use their teeth and nails to tear into animals to kill them.

Industries

Currency

The earliest kind of currency that was used was various kinds of stones. There was a more general consensus on what sort of stones are valuable, but Hoomans usually carry a wide variety due to individual differences and tastes. Hoomans have a specific eye for what kind of stone counts as currency, and foreigners in the past have accidentally insulted traders by trying to hand over random stones picked off the ground. As the currency became more developed, hoomans began using reinforced stone disks that were engraved with the amount they are worth.
Coin Pearls
Coin Pearls is the main currency that Hoomans use. While the currency has mostly turned to electronic and information-based, Coin pearls are still widely accepted and are in circulation.   The rarity of Coin Pearls varies depending on the colour, weight and engravings on them.   Coin pearls are created from a pearl farmer inserting a flat nucleus into the mussel. They are then taken and engraved with very specific designs to designate their value.

Sectors

Hoomans are analysed from birth to see what sector they are most suited for, they are then guided to be trained specifically for that sector. (See Education). If a Hooman is unhappy or not doing well in a specific sector, then they can apply to work in another sector and go through several exams to see if they would also be suitable for the new sector.   Due to the changed needs and the lower population of the Saetan Hoomans; Sectors have been changed into more generalized departments instead.
Accountancy, Banking and Finance Sector Business, Consulting and Management Sector
Creative Arts and Design Sector Education Sector
Energy Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Sector
Environment and Agriculture Sector Health + Social Care Sector
Information Technology Sector Law Sector
Law Enforcement and Security Sector Leisure, Sport and Tourism Sector
Media + Marketing Sector Property and Construction Sector

Cultural Appearance

Clothing

Hooman styles vary drastically depending on a variety of reasons including Weather, Location, Occupation and personal choice.   Unless trying to show off, Hoomans will usually wear practical clothing. Hoodies and sweaters are generally seen as a popular choice for Nasgovian Hoomans.   More robe-like and flowy types of clothing are seen as traditional hooman wear that is more commonly seen on Homeworld Hoomans.

Masks

Mask Examples
Masks are extremely important to Hoomans, as it’s seen as an extension of themself.   Masks are made from a smooth material that hoomans will either engrave or paint onto. More expensive masks usually are made with permanent designs, but some hoomans also like to have the option to redesign their masks when they feel like it. Masks can be made from plastics, metals, stone and other hard materials but there is a preference for ones that don’t break easily and are comfortable to wear a lot.   Saetan Hoomans are more relaxed than their other counterparts when it comes to head-wear, just as long as the face is covered.

Adornment

Hoomans don’t typically adorn themselves with anything on their skin or hair, since they are usually fully covered with clothing. However, they aren’t opposed to wearing jewellery or accessories.

Beauty

Kaence.png
Their behaviour is what ruins it.
The idea of beauty in Hoomans is more in the way one presents themselves in everyday life. This ranges from how they dress, walk and express themselves.
Physical beauty also has some importance, however much less so since most hoomans don’t see the actual face of most hoomans they meet.
While this is extremely varied from hooman to hooman, on Nasgovia it has been a unanimous agreement that the current head scientist, Kaence, is the smartest and prettiest hooman.

Cultural Creation

Calendar/Time Keeping

The hooman calendar is split up into 10 turns/months per year. There are 30 days in each month and then 5 days a week.

Architecture

General:

Buildings are constructed to be well lit, with more public areas making use of more windows and large spaces to keep the place bright. Most Hooman structures are made of very tightly packed stone, metal or concrete.
The layout can be seen as complex and confusing to the non-Hooman eye, but Hoomans do not get lost easily.

Homes:

Most Hooman homes are communal, with it being common having multiple families living together.   More well off Hoomans can sometimes have homes that are just for their immediate family, but it is seen as unusual and strange if a Hooman lives alone.

Art

There is a large range of types of art that Hoomans are interested in, though they have a preference for more abstract stuff. A lot of Hooman art is collaborative usually with at least two or three hoomans working on larger pieces. Symbols are usually rampant in their art, though there have been branches of art popping up in a sort of rebellion against this, in either meaning or use.   Saetan Hoomans like to make very expressive geometric works, mostly as a collaborative group. With large collaborative projects, hoomans can hop in and hop out with adding their creative vision to it.   On Nasgovia, large murals can be seen on the side of buildings and sidewalks to contrast with the large plain stone or concrete that would be otherwise seen.

Music

Hoomans like to listen to a wide range of music, though the music they make rarely has a rhythm to it.

Food

Dirt Preference
Hooman’s main food source is from various kinds of dirt. Nutrition is dependent on the number of minerals and Soil Organic Matter Level.
Hoomans are also able to eat various plants and meat, they don’t go out of their way too often, unless they aren’t getting enough of a specific nutrient, or if it’s readily available.   While dirt can be easily just found outside, most hoomans find just eating off the ground directly to be unclean and rude. Hooman children don’t care though, they’ll eat anything.   Suppliers will package dirt into what type and quality it is. The more sought after and the higher quality it is, the more expensive it is.

Non-Dirt Dishes:

Hoomans are generally disinterested in making non-dirt dishes, though there has been some interest from Nasgovian Hoomans due to their non-hooman connections. This has led to Hoomans making foods with very extreme tastes.   If given non-dirt dishes, hoomans will usually just mix the whole thing up before they eat it (and maybe add dirt if the host isn’t looking). Any dishes they do make will either have an earthy taste to them or a very extreme taste to it. No in-between.

Societal Structure/Views

Marriage/Courtship

Hoomans are generally relaxed when it comes to courtship. Adolescents are usually expected to experiment and look into relationships, though it isn’t pressured.   If a pair of Hoomans become serious, they can choose to be registered under the Health + Social Care sector. Some hoomans like to celebrate it with their families.   If two Hoomans want to separate, that also has to go through with the Health + Social Care sector, however, the record stays so Hoomans can keep track of their bloodlines.

Family

Average size of a hooman household
Hooman families can vary widely considering how many children a pair are allowed to have.   Hooman titles are typically named after the hooman they are born from, for example, Saevii, child of Furla or Jexa, child of Heri.   However, there are alternatives, since some Hoomans prefer their title to be from both parents or there are Hoomans that change their title to be from another loved one if their parents have not treated them well.   It is common for related families to live together or nearby, so a lot of homes may have 2-3 families living in them.

Pregnancy

Reproduction:

Hoomans can reproduce both with and without a partner. Children from a single hooman will be an almost copy of their parent with little biological difference. This usually only occurs naturally when a hooman is stuck alone in a solitary place without other hoomans.   Hoomans with two parents are more of a mixed combination of both. It is slightly more encouraged for children to be conceived this way as then there is less risk of unwanted mutation.

Implants:

Hoomans are commonly given an implant at the age of 15 that prevents them from becoming pregnant until necessary. Hoomans who are unable to have the implant are expected to medication instead.
A fair amount of hooman survivors of the Saetan crash have ended up removing their implants, to encourage population growth and as they have no way to keep track of them if they malfunction. Instead, they rely more on medication if they don’t want children.

Application:

A Hooman looking to have a child has to send an application to the Health and Social Care Sector. If a pair of hoomans are looking to have a child together, they are expected to be registered before they make an application.
After the application is accepted, either one of both Hoomans will have the implant deactivated until the allowed number of children are born.

Duration:

Pregnancy takes about 4 months, which the pregnant Hooman will usually spend their last few weeks or so in a childcare facility to check up on any issues there may be.
The facilities are quick to terminate any pregnancy that looks to have a high chance of deformity and do their best to nip it in the bud.
After the 4 months, the hooman will produce a pod (Podlings), which will then take a further 2 months to fully develop into a younglin.

Younglins

Hooman children are more commonly known as Younglins.

Behaviour:

Hooman children are generally very reckless, will bite and crawl a lot and have a weird fascination with teeth. They have a very happy and cheerful demeanour. Hooman children are very affectionate and like to cuddle up to others. It is common to see nap piles in childcare facilities or hooman homes with many children.
Younglins

Childcare facilities:

Younglins are brought up in the Childcare facilities up until the age of 5, where they are monitored on their growth and development. They are then returned to their families to integrate into the rest of society. It is seen as a big deal for a child to leave the facility as they get to live with their family, and they are given their first mask which they can first express themselves with.   It is frowned upon for hooman children not to be brought up in the facilities, which as a result of this, most hoomans outside of the Social Care/ Health and the Education Sectors only have a vague idea on how to look after children under the age of 5.   Hooman children born on Saeta are brought up by carers while their parent/s work since they don't have proper infrastructure for facilities.

Adoption:

Adoption is not a common concept with Native Hoomans and formally Nasgovian hoomans, since Hooman children will usually live with the next of kin if their parents are not around. Undocumented children can slip through the cracks in this case since the facilities don’t know what to do with them.   Nasgovians began to put in a lot of procedures in place for adoptions after Algernon became leader. While it is still not a common practice, there are some hoomans and hooman children who are grateful for it.   With the initial crash killing many people, a lot of Saetan Hoomans were left with fractured families, and instead chose to make their own and are not opposed to just adopting lost hoomans into their families.

Education

At 10, Hooman children are put through an exam to see what Sector they may be most suitable for, which is then taken again when they are 15 and lastly when they are 20.
A hooman can ask to change sectors if they feel it’s appropriate, though they have to take additional tests and the earlier they ask, the better chance they have of being able to change over.
Young Hoomans are sometimes pressured by their families to work in the same sectors as them, though it is ultimately up to the hooman and the nation on what sector they go to.

Elders

The more eyes a Hooman has, the more likely they are to be listened to by the younger ones. When Hoomans get too old to work, they are usually taken care of by their family who they will usually still live with.

Death and Burial Practices

Due to the private nature of Hoomans when it comes to their true appearance, When a hooman dies they are usually cremated. The deceased’s mask is then stored in a safe place or passed down to a close friend or family member.

Don't do this

Introductions:

When two Hoomans meet for the first time, they will introduce themselves with their name and title.

Displays of Affection:

Other races could consider that Hoomans lack the concept of personal space since they are very comfortable with touching and showing displays of affection to each other, both platonically and romantically.

Mask Use:

Hoomans are expected to wear their masks when out in public, though they are free to take them off in private spaces.
It is extremely rude to try and take off a hooman's mask without them being okay with it first. Removing a hooman's mask just to see what they look like is disrespectful.
Hooman's take off their masks when alone, with family, or around others they trust. Some hoomans are more private than others, so some are more likely to take their mask off than others.

Laws/Legal Code

Laws:

All laws are voted in and written up by the Leader, the council and the Law Sector. All current Saetan Hooman laws have been written up by the Leader. They are then looked over with the higher-ups, and then the civilians.

Fightyplace:

In some cases, if both parties are willing, disagreements can be physically fought out in the designated FightyPlace where they would be under the eye of others so intervention can occur when needed.

Social Norms:

Social norms are generally enforced by the community. Deviancy from the social norms is a thin line to tread as it can either show off eccentricity, which is a favourable trait to hoomans, or it can lead the hooman in question to become an outcast.

Punishment

Punishment to criminals can range from imprisonment to having their masks taken from them to just manual labour depending on the crime.

Drugs

Recreational drug use is highly frowned upon in Hooman culture, though it doesn’t stop some hoomans from using them in secret. The use of drugs is a problem, as it can’t be directly seen until a Hooman begins to act erratically and extremely unusual.
Alcohol is also frowned upon, more so on the fact that Hoomans have a very low tolerance to it. Some hoomans choose to drink socially, but they have to be careful about it.

Language

The Hoomans have their own language that they speak, which runs all their systems and technology. Nasgovian hoomans have since adapted to speaking Nasgovian languages but still use their written native language. Nasgovian Hoomans are usually rusty when speaking it unless they are constantly surrounded by the usage of it, or actively make an effort to brush up on it. To Homeworld Hoomans, they sound more old-fashioned when speaking.

Cultural Events

Sports/Recreation

Hoomans generally prefer group activities and collaborations with other hoomans.   Hoomans have a large range of sports that they like to get involved in and can get very competitive, some to a fault. They also like various card and board games.   There are various solo hobbies that Hoomans get up to, but it’s mostly just seen as time that they need to recharge before getting back into more social hobbies again.

Festivals/Celebrations

Return to the Earth:

One celebration that Hoomans have is where they try to give back to Nasgovia. This usually involves them burying various compostable materials into the ground that will help with making the earth more fertile. The celebration also involves music, dance and other fun activities as an excuse for Hoomans to have a good time.

Demographics

Towns/Villages/Cities

Main Nasgovian Cities
On Homeworld, most of the settlements have been abandoned by hoomans trying to flee from the Pink Blight. The largest remaining settlement is Eidolon’s Citystate, which was walled off from the affected land. On Nasgovia, settlements are planned out in advance and are built quickly to help with expansion, older segments are then developed and improved on.   Saetan settlements usually flow with the access of fertile dirt. They usually avoid locations with bad soil, unless it gives them access to other resources.

Migration/Population Movement

Hoomans generally prefer staying living with or near their family, though there has been an encouragement to move through job opportunities and expansion of territory.

Exploration

Homeworld:

Homeworld had an interest in expanding to the stars and have sent off many colonisation ships in the past. After the Pink Blight began to damage the land, another attempt was made of sending hoomans off the planet in search of a new home and betterment for their race.

Nasgovia:

Nasgovian Hoomans had grown of their new home until external situations arose where they no longer felt it was safe for their race and began to quickly look into ways to get off the planet.

Saeta:

Saetan Hoomans are much more curious and willing to explore their surroundings. They feel that the more they can find about the planet, the quicker they’ll be able to leave.

Colonization

Nasgovian and Saetan Hoomans were Native Hooman attempts at colonizing on other planets, though it was accidental that they ended up there. They are quick to colonize what they can and are slight opportunists when they can be.

Conflict

Military

Both Hoomans on their home planet and on Nasgovia have a specialised section for the military, where they purposely train Hoomans to be ready for war. Other sectors are also trained to a lesser extent, just in case of extremely dire situations.   All able-bodied Saetan hoomans have been trained to an extent by the survivors of the original military sector. Some hoomans are more trained than others, just in case of extremely dire situations.
Nasgovian Soldiers during the Two month war

War/Conquest

Hoomans are usually defensive in nature and are not usually willing to allow their own to die if they don’t need to. It takes an extremely convincing and strong hooman to push the nation into an offensive conflict.
Hooman soldiers are very brutal during fighting, looking to kill the enemy in the quickest way possible. They use fear tactics to intimidate the enemy, including smearing the enemy’s blood on themselves or leaving traps.
Prisoners are not taken unless the hoomans are looking for information. They do not hold ransoms.

Hooman Grade Weaponry

Hooman weaponry is split up into a number of grades to show how much and what kind of damage it can do. All weapons are placed through a quality check before being graded accordingly. See more at Hooman Grade Weaponry.

Slavery

Hoomans don’t practice slavery and have little exposure to it. While they would consider exploiting other races for the betterment of their own they either haven’t come in contact with enough races (e.g. Homeworld), or they prefer more beneficial cooperation instead (e.g. Nasgovian).
They are unlikely to take slaves from races they are at war with, preferring to just put them out of their misery instead.

Natural Disasters

Hoomans are perfectly fine with the risk of living near volcanoes due to the ash that comes off of them, as they find it extremely useful for making fertile land and crops.
There is one volcano that the Nasgovian Hoomans reside near, which hasn’t gone off yet.
Hoomans back on their home planet do have issues with earthquakes in some areas, to which they respond by making smaller and less complex buildings in those areas as they are easier to rebuild.
Hoomans on Homeworld also have to deal with the current corruption that has been plaguing the land, which has been extremely detrimental. They have tried several ways to prevent the spread, but it has been very difficult.

Resistance/Dissent

If Hoomans are unhappy with their leader and council, then they’ll usually just vote them out. If it is proven to be more difficult than that, Hoomans will resort to more drastic measures and are likely to do a hostile takeover.
Saevii performed a hostile takeover when they disagreed with Algernon’s leadership and were unable to vote them out or remove them in other means.
There is also a small resistance group on homeworld who are unhappy with Eidolon’s rule.
