Gorf Da'ot

I don't care what anyone says, all Gorfs are just nuisances! They are noisy and gross, and I don't like 'em!
~Quokka Candle Stick Maker
There are many varieties of Gorfs in Huggleland, but the Gorf Da'ot is an important part of Huggleland's newest advancements in lighting technology. Their skin and fur comes in various tan, yellow, and white shades. Albino Gorf Da'ot's have skin that is semi-transparent making them a disturbing, albeit rare, sight to many.

Physical Features

All fully grown Gorf Da'ots have a few key things in common with each other.
  • Water-Resistant fur all over their body except their belly
  • Large eyes that are mostly pupil
  • Soft round ears that stay perked up as long as they are healthy
  • Three toes on their front legs and four on their hind legs.
  • Thick, short tail that helps them sit upright for extended periods of time
  • Glowing abdomen that glows brighter the darker their surroundings
  • Four sharp, venomous teeth for piercing and tearing.
  • long tongue that projects out quickly
Baby Gorf Da'ots are born with ear-holes, no fur, no teeth and mostly blind. They also are born without hind legs, but instead have a tail with eight micro-tails attached to the end. Their tiny bodies glow brightly from birth.

The Life of a Gorf Da'ot

Development

Gorf Da'ots all start life as a soft egg that glows. As babies, they have gills and live in the water. As they grow, their tails split and develops into two legs and a stubby tail. Their gills start to shrink, and their teeth begin to come in. Larger eyes and rounder bodies accompany longer and more frequent trips on land. As adolescents mature, they start to develop their signature, round ears and grow fur all over.

Eating Habits

Baby Gorfs enjoy nibbling on whatever plants they can find nearby, however, their favorite thing to eat is the flowering part of the water popo. Adolescent and Adult Gorfs prefer to eat small insects and fish, but will eat water popo if it is the only thing around or if they are feeling ill. Domesticated Gorfs are usually fed 3 meals a day that includes both plants and either fish or insects, depending on what is easier to source in a given area.

Habitat

Wild gorf da'ot are most commonly found in and around bodies of water across the Kaulike region, but are occasionally found in the rain forest that surrounds Loris in the Holoholona. While they prefer to stay near bodies of fresh water, once they are fully grown, they can live in any mild environment that gets average precipitation. The residents of Harmony were the first to create gorf farms and have recently begun to share their techniques with neighboring cities. Gorfs of all kinds do not make the best pets; however, it is not completely unheard of for the odd domesticated gorf to occur. Libra Popo, was well-known for his gorf da'ot companion who helped him see his writings even in the dark or inclement weather. Unfortunately, he didn't see the cliff he inevitably walked off leading to his demise, but that was hardly the fault of his gorf.

Author's Notes

This was supposed to be just a one off species in Huggleland but while creating it, I decided that my world needs a variety of gorfs. So say hello to the first type of gorf. More gorfs to come!
