Goron Titles

There are a few traditional titles and terms that are part of Goron customs.

Brother

"Brother" is an informal term Gorons use in order to show respect and honor towards another being (akin to "sir" or "ma'am"). This is typically used by Gorons to other Gorons, and is often considered disrespectful if used by a non-Goron to a Goron.  However, if a non-Goron does something to earn the respect of a Goron or group of Gorons (which can range from saving Goron lives, to winning a drinking contest), then they might start referring to the non-Goron as "Brother" too and accept being called "Brother" by the non-Goron. The term is gender-neutral. Even females can be called "Brother."   Additionally, Goron patriarchs are sometimes informally referred to as "Big Brother" (akin to "your honor" or "sire").

Dar

"Dar" is a prefix title bestowed upon the current Goron patriarch.  It is added to the beginning of the Goron's name, with no space in between it and the Goron's name, and the Goron's name is no longer capitalized.   E.g. Uladan became Daruladan when he became the Goron patriarch.   Additionally, it can be posthumously added to a former patriarch's name as part of the funeral ritual in order to convey that the deceased will "forever be a patriarch to the Gorons" (provided the deceased did not do anything in life to dishonor himself).

Gor

"Gor" is a prefix title bestowed upon living, former Goron patriarchs, who typically serve as tribe elders and advisors to the current Goron patriarch. Unlike "Dar," there is a space between "Gor" and the Goron's name. Once a former Goron patriarch has died, the "Gor" is dropped from its name and the "Dar" restored.   E.g. Tandur became Dartandur when he became the Goron patriarch, then became Gor Tander upon retiring, and after he died went back to being referred to as Dartandur.
