Zelda is a demigod of the world. She is an idol of wisdom and benevolence.
It is accepted belief that Zelda, Link, and Ganon go through cycles of being reborn to mortal bodies and are destined to meet to decide the sway of good and evil in the world. All the Zeldas of the past whose deeds have been recorded may not have had "Zelda" as their birth name, but were the vessel that the demigod Zelda used at the time.
In art and literature, Zelda is depicted as a young, female Hylian, often of royal prestige.
