Janth Alowar

A human sage, once devoted to cataloguing the flora of Icewind Dale. He and his guide were killed and decapitated by a Yeti in the foothills of Kelvin's Cairn, and his restless spirit has lingered. A group of kobolds happened upon Janth's spirit while searching for shelter during a blizzard, where Janth possessed a kobold named Trex without the other kobolds' knowledge.
Janth carried a threadbare satchel in his life that contains clumps of moss, lichen and shrubbery gathered from the foothills of Kelvin's Cairn and the surrounding tundra. When Janth possessed Trex, he continued bringing the satchel with him everywhere he and his new host went, specifically to a gem mine outside of Termalaine.
When a group of wandering adventurers stumbled upon the gem mine on a quest to clear it out, Trex was slain and Janth's angered spirit was released. Janth was able to possess one of the adventurers before being cast out and laid to rest later when his satchel was burned for good.
