Sensedistortion Elixir

Commission FS-SDE, Raidready Report
Just in time for production, we have concluded our research and tests for the first version of the Sensedistortion Elixir. We recommend to dilude the effects for the raid itself for quantitative purposes.
Alchemical Engineering Center

Background

The Sensedistortion Elixir was first commissioned by the Rox Venture department to give the Soulventures fighting in the Fogshatter Raids an edge against the Quietkind. We at the Main Alchemical Research Center in Vaporio then went ahead and pulled together all known ressources that have relations with the senses of a person.

The Extent

Any mirror flowers, monster tongues, bat ears, magic absorbing moss, singing daisies and touch-sensitive cameleons were collected en masse and studied in reverse-engineering their effects. Special thanks are in order towards the Magiseekers Soulventure. They made a herculean effort in providing us with personal notes and crates of flora samples to hasten our research.

The Product

Although the original goal was to find a way to hide the presence of adventurers from the senses of a Quietkind, we overshot that goal to an unfortunate degree. The Sensedistortion Elixir we brewed not only hid the drinker from the one enemy, but all people, friend and foe. Since the tactical advantage of "knowing there your battle buddies are" is higher than the advantage of not being able to be sensed by any means from anyone ever, we had to dilude the elixir to only apply to Quietkinds, which sprouted the "Sensedistortion Vial".
The following recipe is about the original Sensedistortion Elixir, not the diluted Vial.

Crafting Recipes

Sensedistortion Elixir

Ingredients for a small kettles worth:

Shadowmoss (2 handfuls),
Gleamshrooms (8 mid-sized),
Morning Dew of a Red Dawnflower (4 vials worth),
Moonlight In A Bottle (1 Healing Potions Sized Bottle),
Feathers of a Ghost Owl (8)

Required Tools:

  1. Alchemist's Kit
  2. Enchanted Cauldron
  3. Prismatic Coated Stirring Rod

Crafting Process:

  1. Preparation
    • Measure out two generous handfuls of Shadowmoss and dry it under a black cloth to preserve its absorbative properties.
    • Clean the Gleamshrooms thoroughly. Slice them into thin pieces using a Prismatic Knife to maximize their surface area.
    • Find a Red Blooming Dawnflower and collect four vials worth of dew from them using another Prismatic Tool of your choice before sunrise (the harvesting process can begin once the first hint of red can be seen blooming).
    • As always, make sure the bottle is sealed tightly and only open when ready to add to the mixture.
    • The Feathers of the Ghost Owl need to be freshly plucked and preserved. Use a Prismatic Lynx for this. Make sure not to damage the main part of the feather with the cuts.
  2. Initial Infusion
    • Add three cups of water to the Enchanted Cauldron and heat it over a medium flame.
    • Once the water is warm, add the Shadowmoss and stir gently until the Moss begins to release a faint, dark vapor.
  3. Additives
    • Gradually add the sliced Gleamshrooms. Stir and let the mixture simmer until the gleamshrooms emit a faint glow.
    • Now, pour in the Morning Dew one vial at a time while stirring. The mixture should begin to shimmer with a soft red hue.
    • Carefully uncork the Moonlight Bottle and pour it into the cauldron in a constant thin stream. The mixture should react with a bright flash before settling into a gentle glow.
    • Lastly, add the feathers one by one and stir after every addition. The light will surge when you do so. Add another feather once the light died down during the stirring.
  4. Final Steps
    • Once the elixir has absorbed all the ingredients, it should have a velvety, dark appearance with occasional sparks of light shooting throughout it.
    • Remove the cauldron from the heart and let the mixture cool completely.
    • Once cool, pour the finished elixir into bottles. If the recommended amounts are followed, three bottles worth should have been produced.

Modifications

For the Elixir to be Fogshatter-Raid-Ready, we had to add a quietkind-specific ingredient before the diluding process. We were able to get our hands on some young Quietkinds limbs and added those to the mix after the Feathers. We tested our recipe with hair samples, toenails, teeth and blood, with all of the tests coming back stable. Adding one of these ingredients turns the elixier from a purple black to a swamp green-ish color for some unknown reason, but the effects should be able to persist aside from a few performance takeoffs.

Gameplay Stats

Sensedistortion Elixir

Wondrous item (consumable), rare

Upon consuming the Sensedistortion Elixir, the drinker's image is distorted, rendering them invisible to all creatures' senses for up to 1 hour. While under the effect of the elixir, creatures attempting to detect the drinker must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom (Perception) check, rolled with disadvantage. Creatures with truesight can make the check without disadvantage.

If the drinker attacks a creature while under the effect of the Sensedistortion Elixir, the attacked creature can immediately make a DC 18 Wisdom (Perception) check to attempt to spot the drinker, rolling with advantage if they have truesight.

Sensedistortion Vial (Creature Dependent)

Wondrous item (consumable), uncommon

Upon consuming the Sensedistortion Vial, the drinker's image is distorted, rendering them invisible to one type of creature's senses for up to 5 minutes. While under the effect of the vial, creatures of the designated type attempting to detect the drinker must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom (Perception) check, rolled with disadvantage.

If the drinker attacks a creature of the designated type while under the effect of the Sensedistortion Vial, the attacked creature becomes aware of the drinker's position going forward.

Drinking another vial of the same type on the same day reduces the duration of the effect by (60 - 10 × the drinker's Constitution modifier) seconds each time.
