The Tree of Life Throughout Illica
Of the many creation stories throughout the religions of Illica, the story of the Tree of Life is one with practical evidence. In fact, there are multiple cultures that still have their own "creation story trees" on their land to this day.
In Efera, the World Tree acts as a font of magical power. It's roots are integrated throughout the soil of the continent, providing all living things with both magic and a connection to nature. It is believed to have brought life to everything on the continent.
In the Western Salamander, Yggdrasil serves less as a font of power and more as a bridge. The tree serves as a portal between realms, allowing visitors to travel to any place, albeit needing to stay in the same time. The base of Yggdrasil is located somewhere within the Realm Between; it's true location is unknown. There are, however, two known seeds of Yggdrasil, both located in the Western Salamander. One is located in the Goliath homeland, Cuendillar, The Hearthstone, and the other is located in Tyr’s Temple in Fjardileth. Bathing in the dew of Yggdrasil is said to give guidance and clarity to those with the Old Blood, perhaps by connecting their physical body to the realms of magic throughout the world. The old poems state:
Ask veit ek standa,
heitir Yggdrasill
hár baðmr,
ausinn hvíta auri;
þaðan koma döggvar
þærs í dala falla;
stendr æ yfir grœnn
Urðar brunni.
(An Ash know I standing,
Named Yggdrasill,
A stately tree sprinkled
With water the purest;
Thence come the dewdrops
That fall in the dales;
Ever blooming, it stands
O'er the Well of Fate.)
