Arbitor of the Songs
The Arbitor of the Songs is a title given to the leader of the Nahoist sect in Merboitha. The Arbitor is responsible for representing the Nahorei people of Merboitha within The Conclave in Cyran. Locally, the Arbitor is responsible for divining the will of the gods in Merboitha, and advising the King and other leaders.
Appointment
The arbitor is said to be chosen by _______, the god of songs herself at birth. It is the responsibility of the current ARbitor to train their successor to take their title when they pass.
Duties
The Arbitor is responsible for divining the will of the gods, through the use of the songs. These songs are the echos of water in the deep caverns of the Symelienor Holy Lake.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The Arbitor can only be dismissed from their office by the Grand Arbitor of the Nahorei themselves. This is a process that is started by the followers of the Arbitor, which ultimately ends in the Grand Arbitor travelling to the place the Arbitor is in and delivering their judgement upon them. Dismissal from this position is done through execusion.
While the Arbitor of the Songs has never been dismissed, the Arbitor of Echos has been dismissed once before in the known history of the Nahorei.
Cultural Significance
While most of Merboitha see the Arbitor, as well as the Nahorei people as little more than over-zealous bigots, the people of Seatshambee place a vast amount of trust in the Arbitor and their will. The leadership od Seatshabee is often decided at their behest, and the city-states are hesitant to go to war without the approval of the Arbitor's representitive.
