Dal-Tondal

Located on the banks of the The Ven-Tngate, the continent's deepest river, the port city Dal-Tondal is known worldwide for its advanced ship building technologies, master shipwrights, and the quality of education provided to aspiring sailors. While the ships and sailors of the Orkhir are still credited with being the most renowned in the world, even they will balk at the majesty of Dal-Tondal and seek to further their own advancements in the grand port city.

Originally an Ardunian city primarily populated with orcs, humans, and half-orcs, the port has since grown to encompass many races of the world, even rivalling larger cities like Prestorough and Brethers for their diversity of culture. Coupled with the newly built Sea's Academy, funded and run by the Ithir Arun, the quality of ships and sailors setting sail from Dal-Tondal is rivaled only by the ports of Drog.

Defences

The banks of the river and the walls of the Castle are said to contain more ballistas than Brethers has stairs. While this is obviously and exaggeration, it's clear that the city is very well defended against raids from the water. The outer walls of the city are less well defended, but still capable of holding off an invading army for a short while if the need should arise.

Doron, the Burgundy Hand attempted to exploit this weakness in order to take the city in 4072 FoA, in what became known as The Burgundy Siege of Dal-Tondal. He sent a large number of his fleet to launch an attack on the northern shores of Gathamia in order to push his forces through the central river systems and ambush the city from the north while his grand force laid siege from the river to the south. The attempt was thwarted in The Battle of Miften's Ford before the pirate forces could even reach Dal-Tondal, so it is unknown as of yet whether this weakness might bring about the downfall of the city.

Infrastructure

The docks of the city are the most advanced in the world, boasting not only the newest technology for creating, designing, and retrofitting ships, but also being called the home port of some of the most sophisticated sailing vessels in the known world. The buildings outside of The Docks, however, bear the signs of great age, as much of the foundations date back to the late First Age. As you go further from the docks, near the city proper and beyond, the buildings bear architectural designs from recent years.

Districts

Dal-Tondal's many districts form together to create a vibrant and bustling metropolis around the The Ven-Tngate, culminating in a joyful feel throughout the entire city, even in areas where poverty is evident. As with much of Gathamia there is a general sense among the population for the greater good, and even in a city as large and diverse as Dal-Tondal this sense of community hasn't been lost.

The Winefair, located outside the southern walls of the greater city is developed around the vast vineyards in the area and the wine that they produce. While ships and sailors are the primary export of Dal-Tondal, the wine exports follow closely. As such, the vineyards, and the district of Silver Road just inside the walls near them, are very wealthy areas of town and are a common attraction for tourists visiting the city. Along with the fine wines there are also many craft breweries for sailors looking for a good cup of ale.

The other two districts located outside of the walls are the Seven Knots and Copper Pass. This is where the poverty begins to settle in, with these two districts being the poorest of the city. The city's largest district, Duskmill, is largely built around the guilds and traders. This district features many multi-story buildings to accommodate the large population that lives and works there.

On the northern bank of the river stands The Docks, housing not only the incredible shipbuilding technology, but also The Sea's Academy. The Docks also serve as a living quarters for the workers and students. Special permits are required to enter this section of town, which is highly regulated and incredibly well defended.

The district of Old Point overlooks the southern bank of the river and houses much of the guard barracks along with Castle Lovit, the fortress of Dal-Tondal.

Assets

The technologies present in The Docks are considered to be priceless. Many of the structures there are experimental and one-of-a-kind. While they all serve a utility as per their designs, they are largely meant for research. Due to how unique they are they are invaluable to the city.
