Nilus The Immortal

Nilus The Immortal

Nilus was born in what would today be 389 BC, in a fishing village in the Greek City State of Thebes. His father was a soldier and rarely home, so most of his time was spent with his two older brothers, who grew up on stories of Great warrior heroes like Achilles. When Nilus came of age, he joined the military.   A few years later, Nilus was engaged in a battle at sea. His ship was rammed, and his head smashed into the mast. Disoriented, he fell overboard and into the sea. He didn't know it at the time, but this was the first time he died. He resurfaced some time later and made his way back to the army. He died again in battle, several years later and when he resurfaced from the ocean once again, Nilus was very confused. When he died the third time, he realized he must be immortal; and the only way that could happen is if he had been chosen by the gods to fulfill some great destiny!   After that, Nilus took every opportunity that may lead to greatness, eventually landing himself in the army of Alexander the Great. By this point, he had been fighting in wars for 40 years and become quite skilled. He performed well enough to gain some renown amongst the army, although never enough to stand among the legends as he had hoped. Unfortunately, after the death of Alexander, the army became splintered into several successor states and years of war amounted to little.   With the aftermath of Alexander's generals vying for supremacy, Nilus decided to change tracks and maybe try to find his destiny through adventure, rather than warfare. He left the army and traveled east. Alexander's conquest had taken him so much further than he ever thought to go... how much more was still out there?   It took many years, and was difficult with the language barriers, but Nilus eventually saw his way as far as China, and even then it seemed like the world might go on forever. Nilus began to wonder just how much more of the world was there? But more importantly, how far would he have to go to find his destiny?   He returned back to his old homeland to find it very much changed. The Roman Empire had expanded to cover much of the region and seemed to be holding together better than Alexander's had. His actual hometown had changed so much that he barely recognized it. He visited some of the nearby temples, in hopes that maybe, after all this time, the gods would speak to him and reveal his destiny, but they remained frustratingly silent on the matter.   At one temple, however, there was an old man on the steps outside when Nilus was leaving. The man was a storyteller, sharing a tale with the local children about the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. Supposedly after Eurydice died, Orpheus traveled to the underworld and spoke with Hades, eventually convincing the god to release Eurydice. The story still ended in tragedy when Orpheus failed the trial Hades had given him, but thats not what interested Nilus. He asked the storyteller where Orpheus had entered the underworld from, but the bewildered old man had no idea.   Nilus saw this moment as an excellent lead, however. If Orpheus could travel to the underworld and speak with Hades, then certainly he could too! And since he had been denied entry to the underworld when he died, then the god Hades would know why! The quest to find the way and meet with the lord of the underworld would certainly be the story of a legendary hero as well, so Nilus began his long journey to meet Hades.   Unfortunately, Nilus was a much better fighter than scholar. Asking around only led him to various scholars and philosophers, none of whom knew any way to the underworld besides, well, death. Outside of Greece, it seemed Rome was becoming the center of the world, so Nilus set his sights on traveling to the great city itself in hopes of finding information.   Traveling Rome ended up being harder than he expected. As a foreigner, there were limits to where he could go and who he could speak to. Fortunately, Rome had a strong military that was always looking for able-bodied young men, and service could lead to citizenship. Nilus signed on and spent years fighting in various Roman wars. Unfortunately, any time he typically had to restart his service. They either didn't believe he was immortal or thought he had gone AWOL and was trying to get back in.   He did eventually make it though, only to find that Rome had even fewer answers than Greece. In the time it had taken to get there, Christianity had begun to take root and the old gods, Nilus' gods, weren't as well known. At that point, Nilus was out of leads. The only thing left to do was chase rumors.   So chase he did. Any time there was a rumor of some kind of monster or unusual happening, Nilus made an effort to go there. His adventures took him all over Europe, usually traveling as a caravan guard or mercenary for spots at a time while he tried looking for anything of relevance. He saw a few strange things over the years, but most notably for the story of Nilus was when he hunted the Cyclops.   On an island south of Italy, there had been rumors a Cyclops had been spotted. Nilus found a ferry heading down that way, where he ran into a group of hunters seeking the same monster. Their leader was a tough looking man named Roderick, and after some brief introductions, he and Nilus got along quite well. They traveled to the cave of the Cyclops and ambushed it in the night. The battle was hard fought, but Nilus was able to kill the Cyclops when he cut its head off its shoulders. Unfortunately, Roderick had been badly crippled in the battle, and his legs were mangled. Roderick then killed himself after saying "Meet me in Rome."   This is how Nilus first discovered the DiaFotizo and the existence of other immortals. The other members of the hunting party explained that they were part of an organization where everyone was immortal, and they took Nilus to meet Roderick again in Rome. Nilus was fascinated to discover other immortals existed, although they were still clearly different. As far as anyone could tell, none of the others were chosen by the gods, and had attained immortality by some other method.   Not one to turn down an opportunity for adventure, Nilus was interested in seeing more of this group. If they had more leads on monsters, he wanted in. But also, because of how old and well connected the group was, Nilus made a request that they help him find an entrance to the underworld. In return, he would do what he could to help the DiaFotizo in their goals.

Going to the Bath House?

In order to paint the movement's symbol on Parliament, we made the perfect plan, but the fates said otherwise. We successfully painted the symbol but got caught in the river on the way out. Raghnall heroically sacrificed himself as a distraction, shot and taken by the guards. The rest of us were able to escape downriver, but not without some serious damage to my pride. Word on the street is that he did not survive, and he was blamed for the mark we left on Parliament.   I spoke with the others about avenging his death, but they weren't interested. I took matters into my own hands. Unfortunately I was discovered before I could reach the group who shot Raghnall, but I did cut down two other guards before the night was done. The people of this city will have justice. Raghnall's sacrifice will not have been in vain.   With that started, we returned to the inn. The woman Raghnall called Thiton (I can't recall what she said her name was), was waiting for us.

Midnight Rendezvous

I spoke with Enn Pecie for a little while. I told her tales of my heroic exploits, and of our search for the American. She told me a little more about the town and the tax issue. She seems nice.   "Come to the bell tower at Midnight" -HM   Seems our guy found us first, and wants to meet. Raghnall and I left most of our stuff in our room and went out about the town to find this bell tower. I asked Enn, who seemed happy to see us and gave us directions to the bell tower that came to mind. We took a look around the city for a while, picked a path to the bell tower for later, and tried to find a way to smuggle our weapons into town.   Lady Thiton (who? I never met her...) is here, with a man who claimed to be Henry. He and Raghnall talked for a while and it turns out Henry doesn't want to leave yet. The friends who sent Raghnall might prefer if his mission here were to fail. In order to gain his trust he gave us a quest. come back in three days for paint, put the symbol of resistance on parliament. If we manage to succeed, he will find us later. In the meantime, we can ring the bell after hours and he MIGHT come by to see whats up.     Renee Leon- Corrupt guard who taxed Raghnall seems related to the cult assassin after Soren.

Death and Taxes

From what I understand, Raghnall is here to find a man named Henry Marshaw (sp?) who is an American Lawyer with family in France who returned to help with a growing movement against the inequality of the noble class. Toussine had a vision of two important women who may or may not be immortals, but the two of them will somehow become relevant in preventing the end of the world.   Being unable to bring weapons into the city of Paris, Soren volunteered to keep them at a nearby inn outside the city. Meanwhile, Raghnall and I traveled into the city to find our target. After being "taxed" by some pompous military fellow, we found our way to Thei Inn where we took refuge for the night. Seems Raghnall intends on playing it slow here. While that was going on, Soren was attacked in the night by a man with a tattoo of a rooster carrying snakes & weaponry.   Extra Notes: Bauldric Bunt, carriage driver. We met Baldric's uncle Broderick who suggested we meet Enn Pecie at Thei Inn. A local baker suggested we stay out past curfew and see who gets harassed the most by the guard. They are likely to be with the movement. Some -Liam fellow came by to strongarm Ragnhall into paying an exorbitant tax rate.

The End of Eyam, Visions, and War Again in France

Soren tortured Stanley. Seems he had it coming. He basically gave up now that he was caught and beat. We grabbed a handful of non-religious from church to improve weapons. Worked great! Finally cut through the Werewolves like butter Explored the cavern, killed the wolves. Inquisitor found dead. Discovered madman ravings scrawled across the walls. Herbert was outside the back entrance, skulking around. Took him to Toussine to figure out later. We took the body of one werewolf into town to inform the village the problem was solved and their trouble was over.   Raghnall and Toussine were able to kill me after a while. I had another vision before my return: rope into the dark approach of two or three persons before they reach me, I wake   Freed of the curse, I took some time to get my things and get some new tattoos. New strength and skin as tough as leather. Then we started gathering again to talk about where to go next in the interest of saving the world. Seems France is the place to be these days, as it once again turns into a Warzone. I asked Toussine about what I might find to gift Hades to recieve his favor, and this is what she saw: A man in rags, on his knees, praying. A knight kneeling with sword in the ground. Two silhouettes against the sun, one bequeathing to another. Captain-Cathar's authority (card). A roman/greek soldier red cape, round shield, descending into the underworld. Hades about to hit him with shovel?   I'm not sure what it means, but maybe Hades needs a shovel? Or this knight's sword? I assume with time the visions may become clear. Toussine thinks I ought to start looking. She suggested maybe all I need is to show the proper reverence? Well If she says so, then maybe I'd best just get my gear and go for it! After this war in France, underworld here I come! In any case, we move on towards France in the late 1780s.

Not Quite Myself

Soren took one more loop around town to check in on the one-armed lady and tell the Inquisitor about the days findings. We then gathered at the tavern again to prepare for the evening's battle. Once the appointed time came, we were beset not only by the one-armed wolf, but also a smaller one. After Raghnall discovered a weak spot on the side of the beast, I was able to cut through its hide and strike it down. I turned my attention to the smaller one, and was able to strike it down as well. I took a moment to look out the window to see if there were any more of them... but then what happened?   The others found me in a cave, naked and chained up to a wall. They told me I had apparently transformed into a werewolf and run into the woods. That doesn't sound like me.   The party did rescue me, but we were unable to fully explore the cave after running into more werewolves. I fell unconcious and that was all I remember. Out of character, the rest of the party hunted down Thomas Stanley, who slit the throat of the reverend when they pressed him too far. They were unable to save the reverend, but Soren caught Stanley.

Everybody but me is keeping secrets

Toussine introduced the man as Herbert, but was at a loss for words as to how to explain their relation. In the house the werewolf came from, we found a dead boy, looks about 12. Soren brought over the inquisitor, who asked a lot of questions. We told him what we could and then he called it a night. We took the boy and Herbert back to the inn where Soren and Raghnall were staying and we slept as well. In the morning, we spoke with Herbert. Seems a strange fellow, as if he knew all of us from somewhere before. Apparently he's working for Toussine (though he says for only one week, and the timescale seems all wrong), and he's looking for the horn of Ulf, same as Soren. The horn apparently grants the user some measure of control over summoned creatures.   Soren and I went back out and followed the tracks to a hidden den. It wasn't very deep until we reached a dead end with a locked and chained iron gate. Soren found a couple more pairs of footprints, and we followed a set that wore boots back towards town. Unfortunately, the tracks were at least a week old and following them into town was too difficult, even for Soren. Meanwhile, back at the tavern, Toussine and Raghnall were visited by a one-armed woman named Clairece looking for the injured boy. They returned him to his mother and after thanking them she left. Apparently she has no memory of what happened last night. She woke up in the forest with an arm missing.   When we went to visit her, a couple of people from the church were there. Thomas and Stanley, who had apparently treated her wounds earlier in the day. Soren talked to her for a while, and she didn't remember a lot of what happened yesterday after she stopped by a farm for some eggs.   We split up again, this time Raghnall and I visited the Wright's farm to follow up there. Hoarders lived there before, with a bunch of storehouses. Hasn't been occupied for some years. Mrs. Wright suggested visiting the rector, reverend Monpherson(?) to possibly find the key to the cave. Toussine and Soren went to the church to grill Stanley since he was hiding things. He apparently dug up the horn years ago and sold it for a lot of money to a stranger at the tavern, apparently only a month ago. According to Stanley, the stranger had a mustache and a scar on his eye. Stanley went on to say that he learned of the horn through a dream.   The group met up again and discussed our leads. Without much to go on besides checking in with the Inquisitor and visiting the rector about those keys, I turned to the oracle to ask where the wolf would be tonight. After a moment, Toussine had a vision that we would again do battle, this time at the Tavern! Time for round two, monster!

One Night Ultimate Big Hair Man

Our journey has taken us to a small town in England called Eyam. The people there seem to be suffering from some sort of illness. A Fotizum Inquisitor named Ivan has already been investigating the town to find its cause who was then joined by Raghnall. Although the man Raghnall met called himself Inquisitor Pastukh Aleksandr (Sasha) Antonovich. I really don't know much about what happened with them all though. It would seem we were late to the party.   When Toussine and I arrived two months later, just after the long night, we found the town almost completely surrounded by an 8ft stone wall. We hurried to a nearby house and found a beast had nearly killed a man who Toussine seemed familiar with. The beast, a grey and brown wolf man, burst from the house and began running north. I chased after and engaged, suffering some wounds but taking the monsters arm before it bolted away. During the chase, I came across Raghnall and Soren who joined in pursuit. Unfortunately, the beast was too fast and managed to escape us, but we have a scent, a trail, and a direction. But who is this wounded man Toussine came for? He must be important to preventing the end of the world if the Oracle came all this way to rescue him.

The Immortalympics

With the magical flask in hand and Raghnall along for the journey, I returned to Johanns and his master in Africa. We spent a good amount of time there, Raghnall learned some of the basics of how to craft the tattoos himself, and we both got some tattoos since we were there. I also spent some time working with Raghnall to reduce the influence of the corruption that had taken ahold of my dreams. It's not all gone, but its much better than it was before. But most importantly, with the games fast approaching, I turned my efforts towards preparing to win.   Raghnall and I traveled to Greece where we met up and stayed with Roderick. The games began, and I took every opportunity to participate. With all the competitors being immortals, it was interesting to see how my skills stood up to the rest. I did well at the combat sports although I wasn't victorious there, and mainly was average throughout. But what I really prepared for was the main event: the pentathalon. I took first place in wrestling and foot race, as well as second in the javelin throw. The points I gathered put me in a solid lead and I won the competition! Just as I knew I would! Another favorite highlight of the games was the gladiatorial combat. Roderick and I teamed up and dominated in the group combat games, winning me a Cotinus Olive Wreath.   As the champion of the games, I had my opportunity to speak with the Heirophant and get my favor. I told him of my plan to visit Lord Hades in the underworld, to speak with the god in person. He suggested that attempting to do so may cause my legend to end like Icarus. He believed that if I were to die in the underworld, I may not be immortal any longer. It's been a long time since I held any fear of death, but this is the path I chose. I've worked hard to reach where I am, and the gods have given me nothing aside from the immortality that let me survive this long. Everything else I've accomplished, I did with my own two hands. With my own strength and courage. I'm not going to back out now. The Heirophant gave me two Obols, Greek coins to pay Charon, and said that I could use them to cross the river Styx (which apparently is a real river. Seems kind of too easy, honestly).   While celebrating after my victory, Toussine appeared. She had heard of my exploits and victories at the games and had come to ask my help. Apparently, her latest visions hinted that the end of the world may be approaching, in just 400 years. I hesitated for a moment. On one hand, I finally had what I needed to visit the underworld and get the answers I've been seeking for centuries. On the other hand, I've been given the opportunity to help an oracle save the world; and if that isn't the work of a legendary hero, then what is? I decided that I would take this opportunity that fate has placed in my path, as it would allow me to better prepare for my journey to the underworld. I still wanted to bring a gift worthy of a god anyways, so that Hades might answer my questions. I entrusted the Obols to my good friend Roderick, since he has safe locations to keep them, and has been nothing but trustworthy, and I set out on the road once again with Toussine to find the others and save the world!

Accursed Voyage

Shortly after being hired onto the crew, I happened to run into some familiar faces. Soren and Raghnall were here, and on the same crew even. With them was a new face, another immortal employed by Lady Eta, named Balthazar. Through Raghnall, we were able to meet the captain and discussed our plans to eliminate Magellen and find the lost treasure.   I had an interesting moment with Balthazar, where he revealed he had the powers of an oracle. He could see glimpses of the future, although sometimes the visions would be fragmented or the meaning would be unclear. He told me of a vision he had when I was discussing what Roderick told me about the Kahiin. He saw a future where I struck down a man shrouded in shadow, and I lost my soul in the process. I wonder what it could mean? Although in any case, it is somewhat exciting- I had visited many oracles in my early years of immortality and learned nothing. Balthazar's prophecy is proof of what I have attained!   Whoever that shadowy figure in the prophecy is, it certainly wasn't Magellen. Together we struck him down and quickly took care of his guards. I took a shot to the chest. These new weapons are really something else! While healing from that wound, I continued to be plagued by nightmares. It was fortunate to have Raghnall in the area again, his expertise in healing is always helpful. He also identified the source of my nightmares as likely being from corruption, rather than a message from the gods, and he has a mind to address it once our current objective is completed.   As we reached the destination hinted at on our maps, the location of the treasure was, unexpectedly, in an underwater cave. We swam to the bottom, where we found some strange creatures, covered in scales and spikes. Underwater they had a distinct advantage, although they were obviously still no match for me. Unfortunately fighting while holding my breath is harder than I expected; and between that and the wounds from the first, I wasn't able to go finish the lot of them. Our captain then chose to send man after man under the waves, increasingly frantic in his greed, until eventually Soren got fed up and struck him down. The rest of the crew seemed rather relieved to see him go, after his sudden bout of madness. At least before we left, we did pull up one chest, and I was able to find the flask I was sent here for.   With my goal accomplished and the rest of the crews appetite for adventure severely diminished, we made back for the main land. As we disembarked the ship to go our separate ways, I was shocked to discover that Balthazar turned out to be Toussine in disguise all along!

One Adventure Ends, Another Begins.

The war in France carried on for some years. Our victory in Orleans became seen as a turning point in the conflict. With my reputation following the battle and the captured English general, Geoffroi and I were finally able to contact the prince. In return for my exceptional service in the coming years, it was agreed that we may take the long sought Roman standard. With our objective finally in hand, we traveled back to Rome where we turned it over to Dominus Scriba Felix. In exchange, as we had promised, he had a lead on where I might be able to find my passage to the underworld.   He gave me an invitation to commemorative Hellenic games in Greece, a decade of games in about a century run by immortals. A representative of the gods, the Eleusinian Heirophant (old greek cult basically) would oversee the games and the winner is granted a favor. The games begin in 1620, so it being 1450 gives me a fair time to practice. From what Felix tells me, the games will include Discus, Chariot, foot race, wrestling, boxing, sword fighting, as well as a few group games (warfare, foot race).   Worth mentioning, whilst I was still in France, I happened to see Jehanne again. Despite her death in Orleans, it seems perhaps she has joined the ranks of the immortals. Unfortunately, it was not a happy reunion, as she was on trial for witchcraft having returned from the dead. Apparently, she may have been worshipping the wrong god at some point and they were determined to see her burn for it. She deserved better. It would seem her legend took a turn for tragedy. But if she really is immortal then perhaps, we shall meet again.   With some downtime in Rome, I waited around to meet with Roderick. I told him about the war in France and how I saved Orleans. I mentioned Jehanne may be a new immortal, but in his opinion looking for her would be difficult and probably a waste of time. She would be found by other immortals sooner or later. He also told me about Kahiin(sp?), a group of immortals he referred to as the dark side. These dark immortals had decided to use their unlimited time to cause suffering, or work towards ending the world. Roderick hunted a few of them for 60 years, and found some capable of raising the dead, as well as other strange dark powers. It also came up that Roderick was apparently married to Lady Eta at some point?! Wild. Apparently, they split because Roderick wasn't fond how many secrets she kept and schemes she cooked up.   Rod also pointed me to a blood artist apprentice, Johanns, who needs help getting a special new ink. His master left to find it somewhere in South America? I traveled to where I was sent and found the master, Joshua. He was too old to continue his search but gave me a map to find the component. I followed the map to a port and found a ship, the San Antonio, captained by Juan de Cartegena, one of the five ships of Magellen. When the crew heard about my combat prowess hired me on as help, but secretly wanted me to kill Magellen. From what I understand he should be a pushover, although he may have loyal allies around him. I'm more concerned that killing him may make returning to Johanns and Joshua with the ink very difficult.

Fallen Angel

The battle begun with our attacks on both sides of the camp. I quickly decapitated three (two and a half, really) archers in our charge. The men with me also performed admirably. Though as we entered the camp, it seems they moved out sooner than we expected and most of them are missing. I let one man go to make sure the English would learn a healthy dose of fear. The rest who surrendered we killed. With the camp looted and burning, we returned to Orleans victorious! In addition, we received the fortuitous news that forces from Burgandy had abandoned the English army, hence their reduced numbers. Good for them, I say. I wouldn't envy them having to face my blade!   Unfortunately, it seems Jehanne didn't fare so well, despite the favor of her God. She may die soon. Raghnall took charge of her medical care. She deteriorated over a couple of days, and Raghnall and Soren started getting desperate. For some reason they don't want Raghnall to do his thing... Soren ran off and found some kind of plant that might help with surgery, but in the end, the operation killed her. Before she passed, I had whispered in her ear: "Is this the best you've got?" I hoped that she might rise to the challenge, but it seems her God's protection has failed her.   The city spent some time in mourning. Soren and I said some words for her passing. Soren reminded them of her faith and I spoke of her character. The people of Orleans should remember who she was, and why they were inspired by her. Afterwards, Jean suggested we rally the men and end the siege once and for all. The English forces have diminished even further, and this could be a great opportunity to strike. Jehanne said the war would be over in one week, why not fulfill one last prophecy?   During the week, I also started having strange nightmares. In some, I was powerless and losing. Others, despite all my success, it was like nobody knew me. They came night after night, and seemed too real... I

The Eve of Battle

Raghnall and I took the English Commander, William of Suffolk, for a walk around the walls. We need to remind these English that if they fire their cannons, they may hit their commander. Meanwhile, Soren dealt with that weird rat man in one of the towers (who said some people refer to him as the horseman). Our walk around the wall seemed to do the trick and ended the barrage for now.   After the barrage, our group regathered. Jehanne wasn't happy about me taking credit for heroics, but she doesn't understand that people need heroes to inspire them. Like it or not, she's becoming a hero too. She can credit God all she likes, but it's the bravery and sacrifice of men that build this world. And I will achieve my destiny to become a hero here and now!   That said, she went on to say that she wanted to attack the English and I tend to agree. We can't win this war if we only stay huddled up inside the walls waiting. If we can do something about their cannons, longbows, or food supply, we could greatly cripple their forces. To that end, Soren suggested we move two groups out of the gates in the night; Jehanne leading one and myself leading the other. Together we would encircle the English forces in the west and strike them from two sides, while their longbowmen are night-blind. At dawn we retreat back to the safety of our walls, having hopefully dealt a massive blow to the English. Jehanne frowned upon the plan, but agreed to it if she could tell the English they had better leave first. Of course they refused.   With any luck, this night will bring about a great battle. In victory, glory! And from that glory, my legend!

God's Favored Child

With the relief army coming in, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to capture the enemy commander. After a quick motion, I was able to restrain the English nobleman and intimidate the English into letting us go. I hope the relief army can handle things out here, with this advantage we've given them!   The army managed to push through the English lines and enter the city, bringing with them supplies and more volunteer soldiers. Among them, another friendly face found in Soren! Worse for wear but still intact. We caught up a bit and he introduced me to the reinforcement's commander, Jehanne la Pucelle. She seems small and weak, but strong in spirit. Her faith and bravery has inspired a large number of people to take up arms and follow her into danger. The last time I saw someone who commanded this much respect might have been King Alexander. Interesting.   When we had a moment, I spoke with the others. I had caught a glimpse of that scrawny rat man we found in Burgundy, I think. If he's working with the English, this may be more complicated.   On the other hand, in a meeting with Captain De Dunois, we took stock of our situation and things are looking up. It looks like we should be able to hold out for a while, especially with our reinforcements and captive. Jehanne proclaimed that we would win the war in one week. I like her optimism, but according to Soren she may actually have divine guidance. It seems even the Christian God plays favorites. I did ask her about taking Geoffroi to the prince after all this is over, and she seemed agreeable.

The Siege of Orleans

I've been hit! I survived. An arrow got me, but otherwise the battle went well. I seem to be the greatest warrior in Orleans!   Found Raghnall in the dungeon, accused of being a spy. I cleared his name and the captain had him released. He is looking for a sword that is/was/will be here. Decorated with series of red crosses. Sword of Catherine I think he said?   We went out to parlay and met some William Suffolk fella, who is now leading the English. He offered to let the people of Orleans leave if we surrendered. I told the captain it might help the people, but it would be bad for France. We can still hold out for a few more weeks, let's not give up hope. Also, I want the glory of being the heroes who defended Orleans!   Just then, reinforcements arrived! Coming in from the east, right on top of our Parlay, a group of French began charging the English!

It's Been a While.

Reborn again from the Agean. I died again! I seem to have misjudged the Scotsman. He seemed the sort where a friendly duel would have been fine, but he went and killed me? What a scoundrel. My loss also proves to me that I must not be as good as I once was. Say what you will about my military days, but the constant drills were a great way to stay in top form. I never would have lost to that honorless Scot if I had been in good condition. I'll need to recommit myself to my skills, if I still hope to live up to the destiny the gods have seen fit to give me.   I swam back to shore to the usual village, where I was greeted with the familiar confusion, followed by a strange sort of recognition. Around here, my rebirths have become something of a local legend. In return for their hospitality, I shared some stories of the outside world and showed the young men a few combat techniques. My stay was short however, as I still had business in France. I thanked the locals and went on my way. In a way, it's nice to have some small amount of a legend to my name, although it would be disappointing if this local curiosity was all the Gods had in store for me...   I took a ship back through Rome, in hopes Roderick might be able to assist my journey north. Alas, the man was out monster hunting. I should like to join him again sometime, if the opportunity presents. Our battle against the Cyclops remains a highlight of my immortal life, and he seems to have good sources for finding monsters, in addition to the skills to fight them. His household, however, was helpful enough to lend me some basic gear, and helped me find a caravan heading north to France. In the past I've often worked as a guard to make a little coin while I find my way to distant lands.   I returned to France and found my way to Lady Eta's estate. I was able to recover my weapons and armor, and it seems like the rest of the team was able to finish her mission. She kept her end of our bargain and told me that Geoffroi would be at a regular occurring meeting in about 20 years, so I could find him there after the meeting is finished. I was grateful, but since I hadn't really done anything to help, I told her I didn't want credit for the victory of others. I would pay her back for the intel later, though I have no interest in entering her service. I've been around long enough to know that countries die same as mortals, and that even with her help, France too will be nothing more than memory in a couple centuries. She disagreed, or rather, seems to believe that she can do better than history's greatest leaders.   With a lot of time on my hands and not much to do, I ended up traveling back to Rome. If I have to wait two decades for Geoffroi to show up, I might as well see if Roderick has any leads on worthwhile battles. {Time spent with Roderick}   I eventually received word from Lady Eta about the meeting, so I went back to France where I was finally able to meet the elusive Geoffroi. A small, meek man, but an immortal all the same. He expressed having difficulty traveling France, and every death and robbery was a significant setback in his search for the Standard of the Lost Legion. With my aid, however, he would be able to follow the tracks without fear of being harassed by brigands and ruffians. We spent a long time traveling together, broken only once by an unfortunate incident in which I caught the uncommon malady that has been sweeping the countryside. But Geoffroi did his investigation and eventually found the Standard was most likely in the possession of the French Royal Family. He suggested that if we could get into contact with them somehow, the Logios might be able to present a trade for the standard. From there, he found a lead that the French Prince would be heading to the city of Orleans, and we traveled there to await his arrival.   In waiting, a new opportunity for glory presents itself: Orleans comes under siege from the English! Perhaps the Gods themselves served us this fortuitous moment. Battles against overwhelming odds are the perfect place for a warrior of legend such as myself! It's also somewhat lucky because I might have been torn between this opportunity and my duty to guard Geoffroi, but in defending the city, am I not also defending him? Perhaps if I make a name for myself here in this battle, it could even get us an audience with the prince when he arrives!     *At this point, Nilus is 46 y/o, fighting in the defense, made a bit of a reputation already and is now working with Captain Jean de Dunois who is in charge of the defense.

The Scotsman

After our morning at the Inn where I found information on the missing persons, the Scotsman, and the forest witch; Soren went asking around for more details on the Scotsman and his whereabouts. Nobody had seen him in a week or more, so into the forest we go. Soren quickly picked up a trail that led deeper into the woods. Along the way, Toussine picked up on the distant sound of bagpipes, and Soren discovered several black raven feathers, and some of the tracks on the trail mysteriously disappear.   We came to a brook and found the Scotsman across. Toussine and he spoke for a while in a language I don't understand. He goes by Connor McCloud, and he was hired as a bodyguard by the woman living in the woods. It became clear he wouldn't let us pass, so the party agreed that I could duel him to open the way.         I lost...

The Lady's Estate

Camille chose to return to the forest, while the rest of us traveled on to Lady Eta's manor where we once again met Reinard. We met another Immortal in the Lady's employ, this one a psychic named Toussine. We found our way to the kitchen and I asked the chef for some soup. It was delicious. While waiting for Lady Eta to return, I spent some time training Soren. He's strong, but his technique is still a bit sloppy.   The Lady returned and invited us into her service. I'm not sure I want to swear fealty here or anything, but it could be a good opportunity if she's well connected. If it gives me some leads to follow my destiny... She wants us to find some sorta witch or something. She says they have some sort of Gallow Glass, guardian type thing? Seems interesting. We have to travel to Cohors and hunt the witch Thiton? Something like that.   She saw Geoffroi within the last year, and will look into his location. By the time we finish this job for her, Lady Eta should have the lead I need.   We traveled to the town of Cohors, where Renard found us a nice enough shed to spend the night. The next morning we set out to gather some information after breakfast. While at breakfast however, the innkeep overheard me talking about monster hunting. He gave us some info on the town's witch problem, as well as some notes about current events and a mysterious scotsman.   12 children gone missing 20-something men disappeared in the woods, except a scotsman, who sometimes comes and goes from the woods.

A Good Night For A Hunt

The long night has arrived, and glory awaits! But first, Soren wants to search the town for more signs of the Rat man and his plague rats. I took the opportunity to reassure the town that I was here to help in case monsters appear.   Nothing much came up as a result of Soren's hunt for rats, but I was approached by a boy who told me his brother was taken in the woods by monsters. I told the boy I would find his brother, and our group traveled into the woods, following the boy's directions. Soren was able to find and follow some large canine tracks deeper in, where we found some wolves with fire in their mouths. Hellhounds.   After a somewhat difficult battle, we struck down the last of the Hellhounds. They may have been defending this place, but I don't really know. The boy was there, and though injured, seems alive. Raghnall was able to provide some first aid- enough to save the boy. We took him back to town, returning him to his brother and family.   The long night came to a close at the next dawn. No more monsters or stories of them reached me as we waited out the next week. Soren received word from Reinard, and apparently we're now off to visit the lady at her manor. Hopefully she has some idea where I can find Geoffroi...

That Day In Burgundy

I'm Looking for a local contact in France, a scribe named Geoffroi son of Johannes (Jeff-WAH). Leads point to the standard being somewhere in the region of France.   I visited the local library, but they knew nothing of Geoffroi. The scribe I spoke to took interest that I was visiting from Rome, and said he'd keep an ear out for Geoffroi or the standard.   Met a man at the Inn from the Fotizum. He knows Geoffroi, but not his location. He has other work, may be looking for help. He's hunting someone. For "Our lady" because "against her designs"   Also met two others: Raghnall and Kris. Raghnall seems to be following a vision, sent by Odin. He said something big is coming, and he expects it to happen here. Also that Odin might be another name for Jupiter. We then met Soren, the man's squire, and Camille, a strange smelling woman who had apparently seen their target.   We met the Rat Man, who said he was working for some Lady up north. Thiton? Something like that? "Follow the stench of death"   We attacked the Rat Man anyways. He was weird, even in death. The others pulled a book of disease off him and his flute. I did get bit by several rats. They did more damage than I expected. RATS. What a stupid thing to be hurt by.   Reinard, was the name of that man apparently. I asked him again about Geoffroi, and he said he can ask his lady about it. He's planning on heading back to check in for directions anyway.   This Raghnall fellow has some interesting abilities. He healed some of my wounds!   The next morning we were greeted by The Long Night. This means trouble... and glory.

How It Begins

Met Roderick, a tattooed monk of the DiaFatizo. Together with a couple others, we killed a Cyclops and I was invited to join the guild.   Years later... Burgundy, France In a trade of services for information, I'm helping some members of the Logios find the roman Legion Standard, of the lost legion (9th).   Dominus Scriba Felix the third (Based out of Rome), Logios Sect. In charge of this hunt for the standard. I'm Looking for a local contact in France, a scribe named Geoffroi son of Johannes (Jeff-WAH). Leads point to the standard being somewhere in the region of France. I met a friendly local at the General Store. He pointed me towards the local library, where I may be able to find Geoffroi.
