Session 3: A Royal Mystery Report
General Summary
A day has passed since the seizure of the castle. After a brief period in the throne room, the party split to go and locate various items they desire. Chancer Fate, Heinrich Von Kleist, and Loric chose to head off to an upper floor of the castle in search of ink and the room of the castle's high mage. Dewglow , Dreadcrusher , and Asoka Yari chose to go to the Royal Armory.
On the ground floor, the party located the Royal Armory, where they found Caloderias Vostensus and a gnoll speaking inside. After announcing themselves, gnoll inside introduced himself as Senior Assessor K'tur Marid. They were conscripted in aiding the counting of all of the items within the Royal Armor. After Caloderias Vostensus left, the three began to take their counts. Dewglow and K'tur Marid discovered that while most items were untouched within the armory, there were a few choice pieces missing. The two were dismissed, where Dewglow then realized that Asoka Yari was not with them. Outside the door, the two then split up; Dewglow went to go find Asoka Yari while Dreadcrusher went back towards the throne room to report to Laramie Haiam.
Dewglow traveled down the hallway and found Asoka Yari in a kitchen. After a brief conversation, Asoka Yari revealed that she'd just had a feeling, and so she came down here. She explained how she located the mess in the kitchen they were in, and Dewglow offered that an escapee may have come through here. The two then began to head back toward the throne room. On the way, Asoka Yari had asked her friend how you would talk to someone you had feelings for, but refused to tell her who it was these feelings were for.
On the way to report to the sergeant, Dreadcrusher located a small protrusion from the stone, which he then marked and continued on his way back. Once he located Laramie Haiam, he provided his report with the missing pieces of equipment from the armory, as well as the strange protrusion. The two then walked back the way that Dreadcrusher came and pressed down the protrusion. A secret door opened in the wall, and after going inside, the two found a tunnel going downward. The sergeant left Dreadcrusher to go and gather the rest of the squad, where he then ran into Dewglow and Asoka Yari returning from the other direction, headed back towards the throne room. Here, Dewglow requested that Asoka Yari be attached to their squad, seeing as her original squad was dead. Laramie Haiam agreed to ask the Empress for approval.
Upstairs, the party was able to locate what appeared to be the room of the high mage, as it had magical wards carved into the door. After the opening of the door, they could barely see into the darkness, and as Loric was about to light a chandelier using Prestidigitation, Heinrich Von Kleist asked him to hold for a moment as he cast Detect Magic. Doing this, he saw the entire room covered in magical auras, as well as every single school of magic known to man. Loric proceeded to light the chandelier, of which the candles burned blue. In the new light, they found the body of a corpse.
They began to inspect the corpse, which had a knife through his throat, sitting in a magical circle. Using Identify, Loric was able to discover that this circle and sacrifice was used as a catalyst for a spell on an upper floor of the castle. Meanwhile, Heinrich Von Kleist tried grabbing a few books from a stack that went as high as the ceiling. The first, which he used Mage Hand to grab, fell to the floor as Mage Hand vanished. He then tried Mage Hand on another book, Theories of the Planes, which he then tried to place in his bag only to find out that it was stuck to his hand. After using Mage Hand to try and pull it off--which only resulted in the magical hand getting stuck as well--he touched it to the first book, which then caused the second book to fall from his hand.
The group of three then travelled up a few more flights of stairs, where they found a lavishly decorated bedroom. Inside, they found a magical diamond drawn on the floor, as well as a diary belonging to a child. Loric and Heinrich Von Kleist, together, were able to identify the spell as Dimension Door. While they were doing this, Chancer Fate decided to go into the closet and try on the child's clothes, where they actually fit her.
Afterwards, while Loric was ritually casting Identify, Heinrich Von Kleist looked under the bed, where he found a lock box, though he was unable to open it. He stored it in his backpack. After the ritual casting was complete, they found that the Dimension Door led to a lower part of the castle. From there, the party made their way downstairs to the throne room, where they located Laramie Haiam, Dewglow , and Asoka Yari.
After reuniting and reports were given on what was found, those assembled went to ask the Empress for Asoka Yari's transfer. After speaking with the Empress, Asoka Yari was transferred to the Empress's entourage. After giving instructions to the sergeant, they were dismissed as she went back to learning the language of this new land. The squad left with instructions to hunt down the escapee.
Making their way back to Dreadcrusher , the team made their way down into the tunnels, where they eventually came across a locked door. After picking the lock, they were able to enter, though Dewglow was able to locate a trap just inside before it was activated. As they entered, the putrid stench of the sewers struck their senses. In the middle of the room was a bridge with running sewer water beneath. The party elected to go one at a time, with Dreadcrusher taking the lead. On the bridge, a swinging trap was activated, intending to launch its target into the waters and carry them away into the sewage system. After evading the trap twice, Dreadcrusher was able to jump clear as the trap crashed against the bridge and sunk into the water. Afterward, the party then advanced cautiously, one at a time. Last in the line, Laramie Haiam crossed the bridge, which collapsed, causing him to jump for it. He was able to catch himself on the ledge, but began to slip backwards. Loric was able to pull him to safety. They then made their way out of the tunnels.
After exiting the tunnels, the party found themselves on the east side of the side, completely opposite of the castle. They followed tracks left by three individuals, which eventually led them to the slums of the city. Here, Loric caught a brief glimpse of a suspicious individual with a bag on his back. He then followed the man stealthily and quickly, easily leaving the party behind while they followed. The man had went to a nondescript door, where Loric confronted him. He was able to talk the man down--while also discovering that the language these natives spoke was a distant offshoot of Primordial--who then led Loric and Dewglow inside, while Dreadcrusher waited at the back door, just in case.
Inside, they spoke with a man in full plate while Loric led the discussions. They were eventually able to come to an agreement, sealed by a blood pact between Loric and the full-plated man, that would result in Loric 's death should harm come to the princess in his care. Leaving, the three newcomers to the party were Princess Yrya Sorada, Cadigan Byrastia, and Rodos Vadaana.
After reaching the castle with the princess, the Empress confronted her with questions of a second escapee, her brother. Not knowing, the princess was unable to answer the question. Shortly following this question, the Empress declared that these three would now work for her, and the princess would become the Empress's daughter, or die. The three were escorted out, the princess not having given any clear answers. Following this confrontation, the Empress declared Laramie Haiam's squad as a special task force, where their first objective in this new world was to learn it's language. They would spend the next two weeks with the First Concubine, Netania
